Gold, Amazon and the 10th Amendment!
When a comment gets too long, I require myself to make a post of it!
I posted about the contents of my wallet and @kenny-crane gave a great comment and I want to elaborate on all the topics!
Thanks for this nice post which touched on several interesting topics!
Appreciate that! I was looking for something to write about and I opened my wallet, exploring the odd things I have inside.
Goldbacks
The goldbacks have a hefty premium right now because of popularity - even though they're technically worth about $3, they sell for almost double that. No paper, the goldback is completely pure gold metal with the images printed on it. I saw a video once melting goldbacks and yes, it's pure gold.
Amazon Card
The Amazon card is wonderful, since our family has PRIME and we use it all the time. As convenient as it is, we have to be careful not to build up too much debt on the card, it's not fun when that bill comes. Anyone who has Amazon should consider this card for free Amazon credits.
The 10th Amendment
The tenth amendment protects individual STATES from Federal over-reach. The way the constitution is written (which all judges, elected officials, politicians, federal agents, government employees and bureaucrats swear an oath to uphold), if the Federal Government exercises an authority that is not granted by the constitution, then the States have the right to "nullify" it or "declare void and unenforceable".
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
The phrase "nullification is the rightful remedy" comes from Thomas Jefferson, when he was asked what States should do if issued a Federal Law that the individual Sovereign State deems unconstitutional, he said:
"…where powers are assumed which have not been delegated, a nullification of the act is the rightful remedy…"
A good example is marijuana. The Federal government has no constitutional authority to declare a plant a "controlled substance", therefore if a State deems marijuana legal for sale and recreational use, the Federal Government cannot supersede that state law, even if it's deemed "illegal" on a federal level. Federal marijuana laws are "void and unenforceable" in States where it's legal - a rare example of nullification.
Nullification is how the founders (the authors) understood their 10th Amendment, but modern legal scholars have re-interpreted this using an obscure clause in the constitution called the "supremacy clause".
Ever since the Civil war, from a practical stand-point, the nullification option seems to be lost.
The US Federal Government has granted itself many powers not delegated by the Constitution, but no action is ever taken to remove these unconstitutional powers. Federal gun control laws are an example, or "hate speech" laws, etc. Their only limit is their enforceability.
The claim is that the "supremacy clause" of the Constitution (Article VI, Clause 2) requires States (and citizens) to submit to Federal Authority, since all "laws of the United States" (that are in pursuance of the constitution) are "the supreme law of the land". The assumption is that EVERY Federal law is "in pursuance of the constitution." But we all know that's BS.
"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding."
Laws are only deemed unconstitutional if THEY (a branch of the Federal Government) deem it unconstitutional. And "Judges in every State shall be bound thereby..." So every time an unconstitutional act or edict or law or statute is enacted and/or enforced, it is assumed "pursuant to the constitution" and becomes "supreme law of the land" unless determined unconstitutional.... by a BRANCH of the Federal Government, the Supreme Court!
That is why "NULLIFICATION is the rightful remedy". Because any law that is even on the boarder of unconstitutionality, MUST be nullified (declare void and unenforceable) by individual States and citizens (not by a branch of the Federal Government), otherwise the constitution itself is of no effect and we will never have a government "government of the people, by the people, for the people" as described by Abraham Lincoln.
We the People: A Powerful Force They Have No Control Over
Without nullification, we get what is called "our Democracy", which isn't OUR democracy but THEIR democracy. A top-down, authoritative oligarchy disguised as a "democracy".
It's THEIR "democracy", the rule of THEIR people. Not us. They declare themselves supreme law of the land, no nullification allowed.
Joe Biden famously said in his 2021 State of the Union Address - that the "we the people" spoken of in the constitution are not US citizens, families, communities, private organizations... no he says "we the people" it's the GOVERNMENT. All three branches of the Federal government were present, "You" (Congressional and Judicial) "and I" (Executive). "It's us, it's we the people".
Nullification
Nullification is a reminder of who "We the People" really are. It's not their democracy, it's a "government of the people, by the people, for the people".
"We the People" ARE that powerful force that they have no control over, unless we choose to submit to righteous (and constitutional) laws, statutes, ordinances, regulation, etc.
But when encumbered with unconstitutional laws? Do we go through the bureaucracy, climbing the irory tower to the Supreme Court? No!
Nullification is the rightful remedy.
Brilliant post, Benjamin, and a topic that I'd like to see discussed on Hive a lot more! Thank you! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

The amazon card does sound worth it! We looked at movies on amazon prime a few years ago for our area and they were terrible, so we've never done prime except for the free trials. It still takes us a few days to receive stuff, even if it makes it to our freight forwarder in Florida the next day. Ha!
Prime is great for us as we have several distribution centers near our house, but it's NOT worth it for the movies at all. We've tried looking for any movies worth while on PRIME and it's all garbage.
But PRIME is so worth it for us, we save so much on shipping. !BBH
I can imagine saving on shipping costs does make it worth it! I think all of the TV subscription services that have popped up are pretty wild!
Thank you @gratefuleveryday for this post...really enjoyed learning about Goldbacks, Amazon and the 10th Amendment.
Kind Regards to the family,

I was happy to share... in a post rather than hidden in a comment. !BBH
I was thinking of getting an Amazon card, but ended up not getting it, because I didn't think I'd need it.
Is it really that good?
Like with any credit card, one has to be careful to not overspend and keep up with payments - otherwise it's great getting 5% back every month in Amazon credits. By the end of the year we find we save hundreds of dollars. But we use Amazon a lot. !BBH
