Creative Garden Entry: The Fiction Stories Behind of This Plants In My Grandma's Garden
Edited By: Incollage Maker Application
🎶Planting is no joke, spending all day bent over, unable to even stand, unable to even sit.🎶
This is a kind of Pinoy kiddie and folk song we always sing when I was in Elementary Days. This is only a piece of the lyrics that contains lots of meaning about Farming, planting and Gardening. For today's post of Mine, I would like to share some of the stories I have heard about those vegetables we have here and I heard about from my Grandma who loves to tell a stories about crops and vegetables and also how it will take care of it. This is also my entry for this week's great challenge.
Planting is not really a joke and it needs more time, fucos, hard works and dedications. Before we achieved the success about planting activities, we first facing some of the challenges and difficulties about Gardening or Farming. It also includes the weather phenomenon. It takes a lot of time cultivating even if our back is already aching and be more patience of all our vegetables. The stories I am going to share are all fictions but very interesting to hear.
We have more different kinds of crops here in our Place, and this is a good kind of business or food as well. Ube and Lutya are some of the most expensive crops sell to our Market place, that is why many people planted this in their backyard. My Grandma told me a story about this plant, when I asked here why some of the elders kissed this kind of crops when it fall to the ground.
The Stories:
Other believes that if this crops will falled down to the ground it will be withered and rotten. The Goddesses who guard this kind of crops ( Lutya and Ube crops ) will be mad if this will fall to the ground that is why, it should be kissed when accidentally falls, even if it is covered with mud or dirt.
This kind of stories is very interesting to heard and I really amazed of it. This is a kind of belief so that people will take cared of this kinds of plants and crops carefully. Lutya and ube can easily withered and rotten even in a tiny piece of sliced accidentally on it. So the stories can make believe on that time because no one can kissed the crops specially when it covers with dirt or mud. So they will be really careful of handling this crops.
Some of us already heard about the stories of Jack and the Beanstalk, and they really like it to heard and read. This is kind of vegetables called, String beans. Back when I was a little boy, I always think about the stories everytime when I sees this plant. I also asking myself of this plant will grow higher and higher, there will be a giant on the top waiting to climb down. That stories is already waited 29 years ago already, and that is also a fiction one. Every children have lots of imagination specially when we read a stories so that's what I always think if I sees this kind of plants.
This is what we called Malunggay. Other says that the principal roots of this plant can cured poisonous food that we accidentally eat without knowing it. According to elders, the palm of malunggay is used to slap on hardheaded children so that they will obeyed and behave next time. This is the story they shared about this plant. There are lots of fiction stories they shared to me and I really don't know if it is true.
I also heard about the stories on how it formed the name, MANGGOE-SINIGWELAS fruits. According to the elders, long time ago, Manggoe fruits and Sinigwelas fruits are enemies and they always quarrelling and fighting with each other. The fairies heard them and mad. As a punishment, she turned those two fruits into One so that they wont fight with each other.
For me, it sounds so imaginative. As. I tasted this fruit for the first time of my Life, I tasted the manggoe and sinigwelas flavors and it was really amazing. It connected to the stories about the two fruits.
There are lots of chilli peppers found here in our place, but this one is very unique. This is also a kind of chilli BUT, we can't feel the spicy flavor unless we first put it in the fire and heat it. I also tried it without putting it in the fire, and t I don't feel spicy taste. As I put it in the fire for a few seconds and sliced it, it was very chilli for me.
Our place contains a lot of fiction stories about vegetables and plants, and some of this are this plants named, ORIGANO and LEMON GRASS. Other says that this can helps identifying if the fish is not from evil witches vendors, well sounds interesting to heard this kind of stories. There are lots of rumors about some people brought a big fish and as it touches in the lemon grass and Origano while walking, they heard a tiny voice and they found out that it came from the fish they brought. I keep laughing about the stories, that is why some of the residents here always added this to the fish soup.
The fiction story about this vegetables is also very interesting. They says that Camote Tops can help preventing bad luck. Elders says that it should be planting more of this kind so that the bad luck will end in here and cannot be entering to the house. The leaves of this plant catches those bad lucks and covered with its roots, the reason why this plants grows very fast. Well, this is only a kind of fiction stories I heard from this plants.

I loved reading this fictional stories about planting and gardening. It's true that planting is no joke, but it's also rewarding to see your hard work pay off with a bountiful harvest.
Your stories about the different crops and vegetables were really interesting, especially the ones about the Lutya and Ube crops. I had no idea that they were so delicate and required such careful handling.
And the story about the Manggoe-Sinigwelas fruits was beautiful too.
As for the beanstalk and Jack, that's a story all of us have known since childhood. The educational system made sure we learned about the giant at the other end of the growing stalks...lol
It's amazing how stories and folklore can be passed down through generations. Thank you for sharing

So interesting stories behind every plant. The story of Malunggay sounds to be very unique my friend. Poor hardheaded children. For fear of this strong hit I believe the children in your place should have a soft corner for everyone.
I am very happy and glad that you like it my friend, thank you very much .
Having a garden full of plants and nutritional vegetables requires a lot of work and patience and also a good idea since most things are very expensive now.
The fiction stories are very interesting. It funny how every plant has its own story especially the manggoe-sinigwelas. I also think all traditions have their stories behind plants.
Yes that is true Ma'am, we should have a lot of patience by take caring of the plants and vegetables until we seen the good result.
