Noxious Fumes
The Noxious Fumes ruleset represents what I imagine the battlefield of Splinterlands to be like. Yes, I know the lore suggests there are also breathtaking landscapes and marvelous mountains, which all Czechs have a soft spot for. Still, I cannot imagine exploring the natural beauty there. Instead, I see the realms of Splinterlands as barren wastelands where creatures fight for bare survival. Death is omnipresent, and the Grim Reaper is always ready to do his shabby business, often riding a soul harvester rather than using the good old scythe of his. And yet, even under the Noxious Fumes ruleset, you can set up a pack partly resistant to all the traps of the environment that will secure you an easy victory, just like I did in this battle.
Franz Ruffmane is one of the best options for the strategy I decided to play. The extra armor point this summoner provides promised to keep my keen card alive a tad longer. But I will get to that.
Drybone Barbarian may not be the most outstanding tank in the game, but this ruleset suits him just right. I hoped for it to retaliate once or twice, eliminating the front monsters of my opponent. Once this barbarian gets enraged, it is hard to stop him.
Evelyn Auvera was the monster to be buffed. The Immunity makes it an excellent card for this ruleset.
I can hardly imagine a battle without a martyr in my set, so I naturally placed Venari Marksrat in the most strategic position to buff my keen monsters.
Imperial Knight is another monster born for this ruleset – it heals itself, and the Void Armor ability can keep all magic attackers away for a while. Especially when this monster gets an extra armor point from the summoner.
As I had a spot for a gladiator, I decided to draft Sola Ranjell. With very little hope for her to stay alive for more than three rounds or to eliminate any foe and get buffed, I only wanted to keep my tank healed as long as possible.
The Battle
My opponent assembled a reasonable set, picking the first two monsters great. Ulundin Overseer and Endless Ape both came with great HP stats. The latter even increased it during the battle thanks to its Scavenger ability. Goblin Psychic is a rather slow monster, yet a great magic striker whose healing ability comes in handy if your tank has high HP. And Blackmoor Nymhp hidden in the second to last position was there to stay alive thanks to her Immunity. Well played, I must admit, except that my set was composed even better.
The battle unfolded as expected, and my tank did great, being a keen figure in eliminating my opponent's two front monsters. By the time the latter perished, the Noxious Fumes eliminated most of the rear monsters, except those meant to survive thanks to their Immunity or self-healing. And among the survivors, the numbers were in my favor, not only thanks to the martyr who sacrificed himself. And as I planned, it was Imperial Knight who stood upon a pile of dead bodies as the only surviving victor. Better cards combined with a superior strategy won me this battle.
