Sewing with Love, A Stunning Black Basque Dress for Treasure
A blessed new week to you all lovely creators. It's always an exciting moment for me when I start my new week on hive in this amazing community, as the encouragement helps us get better with our every needlework craft.
I spent my day making this beautiful black dress for my sister @treasuree, I'm sorry Treasure, it took this long to get it done, it's been over three weeks since my sister reached out to me to help her make a new dress, a Basque dress she particularly asked for, yea, she has seen me make this dress style for almost every lady around me and even my other sisters except her, I knew I couldn't get of this hook, at first my excuse was trying to finish up someone else's dress and when I thought I would have the time to make hers last week, I fell ill and had to take a break to the dismay of my sister because she had planned to wear her a new dress to an event organized by her school, the reason for my heartfelt apology even though I know you are the kind soul that is ever patient with me.
I woke up today feeling more energetic than I have felt in weeks, which is just the right energy needed to make this beautiful Basque dress, she had a preference for the dress to be made with black colored fabric, black is regal, don't you think, and it fits just perfectly. I spent about four hours on this dress from start to finish.
Material used
- Crepe fabric
- matching colored thread
Making Process
- I started by drafting and cutting out the dress pattern using a bustier dress pattern with Basque, and for the neckline, I chose to do a Queen Anne neckline.
- Here is the back pattern with a keyhole design on the back
- Next, I joined the patterns together and also turned them using their lining patterns for clean finishing
- I continued by joining the front and back by the shoulders
- Then I cut out a belt which I folded and joined to the side of the front gown before joining both front and back together.
- The belt helps to have to bow luke knot at the back of the dress
Finally, To complete the length, I measured around the base of the dress, and multiplied what I got by 2.5 which I used to determine the width, I gathered it before joining it to the upper gown, and the length of the base is gotten by subtracting the full length from half-length.
And here is the final beautiful look of Treasure's dress, she is yet to come for fitting, I hope this is the first notification she gets to come fit her new dress, Promise kept, I'm free for now I hope.
What do you think about this dress and what colour would you prefer if you were to have one? I would love to know.

I think it's very lovely @glorydee . If it were me I could accessorize with a black brocaded underbust corset.
Love this dress, I will take the steps to make a similar one for my daughter, I wish I had a sister to make me dresses like this.😚
I don't know too much about ladies' dresses but I can say that this one is a very pretty one. For 2 reasons I liked it. Firstly I like the black color and secondly, I like the design of it.
