My excitement, My passion

Happy weekend everyone, hope you are all having fun or resting wherever you are, trust @galenkp to give us inspiring and cool prompts to write about for the weekend, and I'm inspired to write about my passion.

me and my patterns

If you have read some of my blogs, you will know by now that most of my writing includes what I'm most passionate about, which is the art of fashion design. Fashion expresses our thoughts, and moments, and make us feel good and confident about ourselves, one unique thing I love about fashion design, is that it makes us creative at all times, it never gets boring, no wonder it's one of the oldest forms of art.

I remember as a young girl as early as eight years, I admired princesses, thanks to the numerous cartoons I watched while growing up, one thing that fascinated me was their ball gowns/dresses, although I didn't have fancy dresses like them, I would create mine using my drawing books, pencils, and crayons, I created different designs out of my head, and wished to own dresses like that someday, when I grow up, I would say. You will think I continued this passion, but school and adulthood had other plans for me.

Reigniting my passion

During the covid lockdown, I was bored as hell and needed something to get busy with, and since face mask was in trend then, also our government recommended using our African prints fabric to make them, I decided to try making them myself, without any prior knowledge of pattern drafting, though I could peddle a sewing machine, I went on the internet and learned from different youtube tutors, In no time, I started making face masks, for fun and safety for my immediate family at first, before I knew it, I was distributing it to people in my locality, Soon, I started receiving orders and made a lot of in one making facemasks at home.

I discovered then, that I actually enjoyed the process of sewing, I decided to furthermore and learn the art of dressmaking, it was so overwhelming at first, I didn't understand a thing taught on the first day, but my passion and interest had already peaked at this point, so there was no going back, the process of drafting patterns, cutting the fabric into many pieces, then joining them back to make the beautiful and classy dresses excites me every time I make a dress, I'm always looking forward to the finished outcome, which is the fitting also the joy and satisfactory smile I get from young girls and women who were like me, a young girl who admired pretty dresses but didn't have any, I bring their imaginations to reality and so far, I've made some little girls look like the princesses they are.

Before the lockdown got lifted, I had ventured fully into fashion designing, I am a fast learner, and didn't need to go back to my previous job. So far, I'm glad I took that decision and discovered myself and my passion.
