I made a dress for my little designer

Making children happy is one of aspect of dress making I find comforting and satisfying. Have you seen a child being gifted a new dress? The sparkles in their eyes, also the wide smiles some even dance for joy at the sight of a new dress haha all these stir up emotions in me that I can't really define than to say it makes me feel fulfilled being able to pass joy to these little ones through the work of my hands. I believe my job is more than just making clothes, it's about making people happy and I'm grateful I get to do that. I'm sure other dressmakers feel the same way. It's an honor to be able to make such a difference in the lives of children.

There is a little girl in the new neighbourhood I just moved to, she likes coming around my apartment, always pleading for her mom's approval to come see me working because she likes seeing me working on new dresses, and even said she would like to be a fashion designer in the future🥰, little dreamer. I decided to surprise her with a new dress, the fun part is that she didn't know the dress I was making was for her, you could imagine the shock on her face when I told her to fit the dress that it's for her, and yea, she danced for joy. Little things like this makes my day.

Cutting and sewing Process

Step 1

I started by drafting an A-shape pattern for both front and back

Step 2

They I cut out long strip of the ankara fabric also of the plain crepe, pleating the crepe on fold on both sides beneath the ankara strip, after which I sewed it on the front dress pattern.

Step 3

I added the pocket pattern on both sides, also turning the neckline with a facing, not forgetting to add a loop for button at the back.

Step 4

Finally, I drafted a basic sleeve pattern and attached it to the dress.

My little designer's dress is ready, we finished late at night, reason for the dark pictures ha ha bear with me, I'm always fulfilled as a designer to get a child happy, seeing the joy on their face when they receive the dress was priceless. I'm grateful for the opportunity to make her happy and it keeps me motivated. I'm looking forward to making more creations for children.

And it turned out beautiful and fits her so well..
She can start to make her own outfits once she adds a little more age. I am sure you won't find it difficult to out her through.

Just seeing that girl's face is enough to know that she loved her dress!! It looks beautiful and so does she. I like the detail of the ruffle in the center, it makes this dress unique. And I also understand sewing until late at night and then taking photos in low light, the same thing happens to me 😅. Now I usually leave the photo session for the next morning.

Greetings Glorydee, happy day to you ❤️.

That smile is all I needed 🤗, Thank you @lauramica, the Idea was to add something extra to shift it from being a normal plain A-shape dress.

I wish I could move it till the next day, but my little designer had to travel with her mum early the next day, and leaving the dress behind wasn't an option for her😂.
