Creative-Sunday: I made a two-piece outfit (Top and Skirt)

avatar

Happy Sunday hivers, it's a beautiful day, my favourite day of the week, let's make the best out of it, as with it comes another creative Sunday on the hive learners community.

Today, I will be sharing with us a DIY process of how I made a two piece outfit, a sleeveless front zipper top and a short straight skirt.

I made this outfit for a friend of mine, using a vintage material, she will be making use of it for her upcoming birthday photo shoot as a formal wear. Although, the professional pics are yet to be out, thankfully, I had my mannequin to model it for me. It took me about 4 hours to make this outfit from start to finish.

Thinking of where this outfit can be worn to, the office or any formal meeting, a date, church or anywhere you feel you are cool with as it gives off a classy female vibe.

So without further ado, let's get right straight into the process, I hope you enjoy the process with me as I did while making it too.

Materials/ Tools Used

Vintage fabric
Suit lining
London crepe(that's how it's called in my country)
Matching thread
Zipper

And of course my tape rule, scissors and sewing machine.

PROCESS

  • Every outfit always start with a pattern, I drafted a basic bodies pattern, for both front and back and a basic straight skirt pattern using my pattern paper first, before transferring it to the fabric.

back pattern

front

  • I will be putting a base in the top part which is also known as lining, so I duplicated the top patterns using the suit lining for both front and back

  • Next, I joined the two pieces of the front pattern to the one piece of the back

  • I cut out a 2 inches strip of the crepe fabric, which I used in piping the armhole(armpit area)

  • I repeated same process with the lining, and used it to turn out the main fabric, giving it a clean finishing inside and out. And also sewed in the front zipper.

To the skirt pattern

back

  • I stitched the crepe strip to the front part to give it a design,
  • I didn't add lining to the skirt part, I just joined it at both side then hemmed it with the crepe fabric, which I also used as a band too.

  • I gave it a good press, and here is the final look🥰 lovely isn't it?

As you can see, it can be worn with a turtle neck top or with a camisole, even a shirt will work with this outfit.

Please note, all images used in this post are mine, unless otherwise stated.

Thank you for reading❤❤

That is amazing!
If I may ask - how you are making your paper patterns? Did you bought those, or you can make them by yourself?
