Uniqueness of a Mixed school over a single-sex school.
Hello Everyone in the Hiveghana community. I hope we're Good.
Sequel to the weekly prompt I had a good time pondering on the topic: What Advantages does a Mixed school have over a single-sex school?
I happened to attend a mixed school so I don't really have an experience of how a single sex school is. But I had a sister that went to a single sex School. I happen to see that in her social Development, she happens to mingle more with peers of same gender than the opposite gender. She finds it difficult to relate well with peers of the opppsite gender. I think she has been constrained to only female relationships. Meanwhile I have been groomed to mix up with both peers of different genders and I have been built to tackle life in any form.
Single-sex and mixed schools are both very unique in their own way. I kept hearing that a mixed school breeds wayward children But i happened to be a product of a mixed school and not wayward. Wayward in the sense that since it is a mixed school you're at the verge of being distracted from the boys and you end up losing focus in your academic pursuit. And the single-sex school was one school most parents trusted to be the best and that any child going there remains Good, focused and well disciplined. But the great fact is that this all depends on individual differences. A child attending a single-sex school can still lose focus and get distracted if she chooses to and a child attending a mixed school can still choose not to be distracted and focus more on the reason he or she was in school.
A mixed school is designed in a real sense to prepare a child better for the real world. A child that copes in a mixed school can cope anywhere in the real world. He or she is able to navigate their way around life. The child will be able to build an effective future relationship. Being in a mixed school gives students an opportunity of learning communication and interacting with peers of all genders. It helps promote equality and not make them grow with gender biases.
Meanwhile the single-sex school has its own Advantages too, very unique in its own way. Like I was talking about my sister finding it difficult to relate well with peers of all genders. She finds it difficult to keep a healthy relationship with the opposite gender but she is confined to just her gender. Most children from a single-sex schools always have these tendencies in them because they tend to bond more with the same genders. A child attending a mixed school hardly copes well in the real world. They take time to adapt, and build healthy relationships with different genders and this affects them greatly especially in places like the workplace.
From my experience both schools are very unique in their own way. They have a whole lot of advantages but I would prefer my children schooling in a mixed school in order to help them better prepare for the tussle in the real world.
Thanks for stopping by.
I am @gloreal.
I attended a mixed-sex school. I can relate to all you said here. Very true
I attended a single sex school and I can say I’m doing really great out there. I believe it all has to do with the individual.
The main focus of school to gain knowledge in so many areas and building interpersonal relationships also counts. I guess both types of schools have their pros and cons.
