What's The Way Forward?

A country with everything is lacking in most things
Isn't it surprising that we lack the things we are blessed with the most?
Mismanagement, greed and selfishness has eaten to our core
We bleed and sweat greediness even from our pores

The country is rich yet the average person cannot even boast
No one can boast of anything of worth as poverty looms in the street
The son of a king wear rags across the street
The daughter of a meat seller eats the bones

The major producers of oil live in penury
How did we get to this point? Greed and selfishness, that's it
What's the way forward, a lot of people asked
Until the power of love overrides the love for power we can't go anywhere

Until we have curbed greed and selfishness
Until we have people with foresight and leadership skills
Until we have people with ability to serve without hidden intents
Until we reduce mismanagement and plan with purpose
I'm afraid there is no way forward for this country called Nigeria
We can't have so much and still lack so much
It's a slap on our faces and we need to do better

Cheers.

Some people are slobs for love, some for wealth, some for power. This is a trait of people. We won't be able to significantly alter human nature at this time, in my opinion. Libertarianism doesn't make this claim in any way.

Sadly, we can't alter the ways of humans and that's why the world is in the state it is in. We can just hope for the best.

Very thoughtful poem, reminds me a lot of my country, it is almost the same as yours, inflation is strong here, thanks for sharing.

It's the sad reality for most countries. I pray God help us as we also help ourselves. Thank you.
