Nigeria Government And Terrible Financial Decisions.
Nothing good comes to mind whenever the word "government" pops up in my head or it's been mentioned around me, all I see bunch of greedy old men who just want the power they can misuse and embezzle money.
I have read about some countries where their government is doing a really great job and I admire them a lot. The fact remains that the government can't solve every citizen's problem but the impact of the people in power must be felt positively to an extent. There has to be something significant that the masses must enjoy from the government but it is a different case here in my country where the government only does things to favor some class of citizens.
It is so bad to the extent that whenever I hear in the news that the government is planning anything, I just zero my mind that the masses won't benefit from it, and the only time the people in power think of the masses is when the election is approaching.
They need the people's vote so they try to win their hearts with something.
For instance, a road project started in my community before the election. The people in the community pledged their support and fulfilled their promise by voting for the man who approved the road project.
The job has been halted before the new year and the people of the community are struggling now. Many houses, shops and even the modern drainage system that the CDA labored to construct have been demolished, we can't ply the road and it became clear to us that they only used us to get what they wanted.
It's not surprising to me because that has always been the logic and people keep falling for their mischievous plans.
This same government will come on air to speak about the country's debt and it gets me worried because we can't see the exact thing they are spending all the money they are borrowing for.
We don't have good electricity and that's making industries leave the countries for neighboring countries, citizens who are trying to make ends meet lose their jobs, and the price of products increases because of the cost of transporting goods to Nigeria.
The roads are bad, the education system is crumbled. A four years course in the university has become seven for students because if ASUU doesn't strike, salaries won't be paid.
Should we talk about the health sector or the country's security, nothing is working well in the country, and amidst all of these, our old men still don't know the right thing to do.
One thing the government needs to spend on that they aren't doing.
The country is lacking a lot of things and I am not sure what exactly the government should be spending on urgently. Nigerians need a lot of things and probably providing jobs/ helping entrepreneurs will do urgently.
The level of unemployment in the country is something else and that's why a lot of terrible things are happening. Many youths have chosen the wrong path when they can't make ends meet and it is not doing the masses any good.
In 2016, the federal government said some money would be given out to people as a grant to invest in the agricultural sector. A lot of Nigerians applied, we even paid to get the forms and other processing. It will interest you to know that even till today, nothing has happened.
The money was disbursed really but those who took the money are the people in government and in the end, they gave people bribes so they can make false testimonies about the grant.
The government needs to provide jobs and support entrepreneurs across the country.
Imagine how life is treating some set of citizens just because of inflation coupled with the fact that there is no job and their business is struggling. It would be impossible for the government to tackle issues like insecurity if nothing is done to help people provide for themselves in the country.
Wrong spending.
It doesn't amaze me again whenever the government decides to spend money wrongly.
Last year, the government disclosed the plan to redesign the naira notes, and billions of naira were needed for that.
The first question that came to mind was, why do we need to redesign the note because that should be the last thing the government should be worried about at that time. While some of us thought it was just a bluff, the government went on with the plan.
They wasted money redesigning and their decision further put the country in a terrible situation. A deadline was set for the return of old notes and the citizen did as instructed but we didn't get a replacement for the money deposited.
It was so bad that we had to start buying money in the country, the redesigning only worsened the financial crisis in the country and they could have just spent the money on something more reasonable.
Things are yet to return to normal since the new notes were forced on us and in the end, we had to return to spending the old notes and it keeps bothering me why the money was redesigned initially.
I have lost hope in the government a long time ago, Nigeria will need a miracle to get the people who will make the positive impact we all want into the government and until that happens, we just have to keep doing the best we can to help ourselves.
When i think about the wrong way money and other resources are spent, as if I should cry. Misappropriation of funds and lack of priority is what causes this.
Thanks for identifying some of these wrong ways of spending
Everything we are going through because of the government's wrong financial decisions is disheartening and we mustn't allow it to get to us. Doing that will hurt our mental health.
All I see are misplaced priorities, they will rather do things that will benefit them than the masses.
Totally agree with you
It's only miracle we need in our country because things have gone worse than expected. They keep borrowing here and there, but we aren't seeing the reasons why they borrowed because they are busy doing the wrong thing. People need employment and entrepreneurs should be supported too. May God help us in this country.
How about the last one they wasted to redesign new note, how did that single idea help Nigeria as a country how about the citizens, is it the one of INEC on BVAS we live in a failed county

Too sad whenever I think of all that the government is doing that isn't just worth doing but neglect what needs to be done.
We won't even be able to list everything they aren't spending on but we could give a count to what they have done that isn't even worth spending on.
We hope for a better leadership 😪
Most of developing and underdevelopment countries are facing bad times and the government is acting like mad elephants. Almost all of the politicians are corrupt and they are only thinking to make their own profit rather than developing the country.
The unemployment problem is a major and common problem in an overpopulated country. If the government can do something for them they will turn into assets for the country.
To us we thought that they are spending wrongly meanwhile what they are spending on is for their own benefits
I wonder how we got here and I also wonder when this country will eventually developed
I wish shocked one time when I read that, nigeria created more than 1 million employment every year. The rate of unemployment in the country is the grassroots of corruption
The lists of unnecessary spending by our Nigerian government is a long one...very unhealthy for the masses. They have abandoned the important things to do but spend money unnecessarily...the health sector, the education , the agriculture, all these needs money to flourish well in our country but no, they will be wasting the money on senate salaries, imagine the millions of naira they receive monthly for sitting down in a meeting as their job . mtchew, or is it the current redesigning as I pointed out
Well, just like u said, I have equally lost hope unless God step in to help us
The rate of unemployment in our country is alarming and that is why there is high rate of criminalism.
A lot of people don't have jobs and there is a solution that the government can provide to it but they are just being wicked.
