Dragons

Dragons are a very unique splinter to play in Splinterlands. Rather than sticking to units of a single splinter, when you select Dragons you can select another splinter to work with Dragons. So lets said you select Dragons and then Water, it means you can use both Dragons and Water units in your battle setup.

This is a very powerful arrangement as it gives you far more flexibility in selecting your units.

Dragons have many powerful summoners and it will takes hours to go through every single one of them. Today we will focus on a Chaos Legion Dragon unit, Void Dragon.

Void Dragon is a legendary Dragon unit that cost 7 mana to summon. Below is its stats sheet:

At level 1, it has 1 magic attack, 5 speed and 7. In addition, it also has the ability Flying and Void! With 5 speed and Flying it is crazily hard to hit it with ranged or melee. Not only that but Void also give protect to this unit from magic attack. At level 3, it will gain another ability, Phase. With Phase, magic attack would find it even harder to hit Void Dragon. At its max level 4, Void Dragon will have 2 magic attack, 5 speed and 9 health.

Below is the details of a Wild ranked match I had using the Dragon summoner Quix with Void Dragon. The battle restriction is:
Spreading Fury + Earthquake rulesets with a max mana limit of 27.

TEAM SETUP:

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Quix the Devious4SummonerThere are only 2 splinters, Water and Dragon, that I can use in this match. I went with Dragon as Dragon has a lot of good Flying units that I can chose from for this Earthquake ruleset match.
Chaos Agent11stThis is a cannon fodder. It is expected to die in the first round but is use to block the first attack from the opponent.
Gargoya Lion62ndThis is my main tank. It has Flying ability so it is safe from Earthquake. It also has Void and Shield which would help if my opponent uses magic.
Void Dragon53rdMy 2nd tank, Void Dragon, also come with Flying and Void abilities. It is also very fast.
Pelacor Bandit34thUsing Pelacor Bandit to hunt opponent backline in case they put a flying unit at the back.
Gargoya Devil75thMy main DPS. Hope it would help to clear the opponent frontline fast.
Hardy Stonefish16thLike Chaos Agent, this unit is a cannon fodder except this is to protect my Gargoya Devil from enemy sneak units.
Total Mana:27

Lineup:

lineup.jpg

My opponent used a Level 4 Keyla. I guess correctly that my opponent would put up a magic units lineup. My frontline with Void should help in this match. Also you can see my opponent didn't have many Flying unit other than Ice Pixie. Do not do that unless you feel you can take out your enemy fast.

End of Round 1:

End of Round 1.jpg

I lost my Chaos Agent at the end of round 1 while the opponent lineup seems totally intact. That is because Earthquake hasn't make it round yet. My opponent lineup would have been great if there was no Earthquake ruleset.

End of Round 2:

End of Round 2.jpg

By the end of Round 2, it became apparent how Earthquake would devastate my opponent lineup because of the lack of Flying units. My opponent has now lost the Hardy Stonefish and most importantly Venari Wavesmith was also dying at the back. Meanwhile my Gargoya Lion is likely to hold the frontline for another turn due to Void.

End of Round 3:

End of Round 3.jpg

With Venari Wavesmith gone, the Protect effect was removed. My Pelacor bandit went ahead and also took out the opponent Scavo Halfling. Now it became a battle of attrition but was sure of winning at this point cause my Void Dragon was still intact.

End of Round 4:

End of Round 4.jpg

My Gargoya Lion missed this round but it doesn't matter. My opponent's healer is dying anyway.

End of Round 5:

End of Round 5.jpg

My Gargoya Lion finally died but it doesn't matter as my opponent also lost Djinn Oshannus. The remaining Ice Pixie can do nothing to my Void Dragon as the Ice Pixie's 1 magic damage cannot penetrate Void Dragon's Void ability. This is a easy Win.

KEY STRATEGY
My strategy in this Earthquake ruleset was to go into a war of attrition using Flying and Void abilities units to counter enemy magic units.

CONCLUSION
Dragon is a very powerful splinter with lots of powerful units. In most cases I wouldn't use Dragon when mana restriction is below 30 but this is an exception. The extra units Dragon splinter will always give you allow extra flexibility in your unit deployment. The key is to not get over confuse when you have too many units to chose from.

Also my guild, The Guild of Kingshaven, is looking for new member to join in. As an added incentive, our guild leader will also be assigning Runi to any new member that can actively participate in brawl battles and give donation to our guild buildings. Runi is extremely powerful and is the only unit that has the Rebirth ability.
