BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! - Holy Protection Ruleset
Hi Guys! In this post we are exploring on another Splinterlands ruleset. The ruleset we are focusing on is Holy Protection.
In a Holy Protection ruleset, all units gain the Divine Shield ability which reduces the damage of the first attack received to 0.
Divine Shield will be re-applied when a unit is Resurrected.
Lets take a look at a Wild ranked match with Holy Protection as one of the ruleset. The battle restrictions are:
Even Stevens, Holy Protection and FiveAlive with a max mana of 26. All splinters are allowed in this match except for Death. The Video for the Full Battle can be seen here:

Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Eternan Brune | 6 | Summoner | I decided to go with a Fire summoner because I wanted to use Iidri Fyre for this battle. Iidri Fyre has Redemption ability which will inflict 1 damage to all enemy units when it died. This ability will counter the Holy Protection ruleset. Eternan Brune also has a -2 armor ability and allowed me to use a Fire gladiator unit. |
Iidri Fyre | 6 | 1st | Iidri Fyre was my most important unit in this match and was destined to die first so as to trigger the Redemption effect. With Redemption, all the enemy units will be hit once which then will remove the Holy Protection effect. Iidri Fyre also has Taunt which means it will draw all the enemy fire onto itself thus giving my other units a round or 2 of safety to do their damage. |
Ferexian Hero | 8 | 2nd | Ferexian Hero has Weapon Training and Reach so it was placed at the 2nd position to give Iidri Fyre some fire power while still being able to hit at the enemy tank. |
Orella Abadon | 2 | 3rd | Orella Abadon is a cheap Gladiator unit with Sneak. It only cost 2 mana and could turn into a monster if it starts to gather some cheap kills if the enemy backline is weak. |
Scavo Firebolt | 4 | 4th | Fire splinter don't really have many even mana unit so Scavo Firebolt was chosen out of lack of choice left. It is a ranged unit though and would provide some extra fire power from the back |
Scorch Fiend | 0 | 5th | I have 0 mana left at this point so added a Fiend to here. Remember this is a Holy Protection ruleset match so even a small unit like Scorch Fiend is able to withstand 2 attacks. |
Total Mana: | 26 |
Opponent Lineup:
I was not happy when I saw my opponent went with a magic lineup. Magic was exactly what my lineup feared the most. I don't have a single unit in my lineup that had Void or Void Armor. This means my opponent magic attacks can cut down my units at a fast rate. The only thing protecting my unit is the Holy Protection ruleset.
End of Round 1:
The battle didn't start as well as I hope. I missed an attack on the opponent tank, Gargayo Lion, while my own tank was dying. At this rate the enemy tank would still be standing while my own tank would die by round 2.
End of Round 2:
Round 2 was eventful. I started with a good hit on the opponent tank from my tank but that was very quickly healed back up by the opponent healer at the back. Bad luck followed when I missed another attack on the opponent tank again. Then my tank died and Redemption was triggered which thankfully inflicted one damage across the board on all the enemy units. Those enemy units with Holy Protection had their Holy Protection removed plus I also managed to kill off the enemy healer at the back which incidentally had only 1 health left from an attack by my Gladiator sneak unit, Orella Abadon.
I looked like I was losing at this point though with my Ferexian Hero being pushed to the front facing 3 magic attacking units with 2 attack each.
End of Round 3:
Unfortunately I started the round 3 with another miss. Luck was really on my opponent side with the Gargoya Lion dodging a total of 3 hit so far. Statistically the Flying ability only gave a 25% dodging chance but it was dodging way too often in this battle for my liking. It did eventually die when my Ferexian Hero connected its hit.
I really looked like I was losing at this point as my Ferexian Hero was left with just 1 health and would die immediately the next turn without being able to hit anything. And with that all I had are low health units.
End of Round 4:
As expected, My Ferexian Hero died quickly. But thankfully I was able to hit and kill the opponent, Pelacor Conjurer, without a miss this time. The killing gave my Orella Abadon a stat boost but I also forgot to mention that all this time my opponent Gladiator unit, Helmet Kharafax, was also growing in health because it had the Scavenger ability. My Orella was immediately attacked by the opponent remaining
units but thankfully one of the attack was blocked by Holy Protection. Holy Protection saved my Orella else it would have been dead at this point.
End of Round 5:
My Orella started the battle first and killed off the opponent unit, Aves Sturgis, which don't have any Holy Protection at this point.(because it was taken away by the Redemption effect earlier). That killed again boosted my Orella's stats and it was able to just survive another attack from the opponent Helmet Kharafax.
End of Round 6
I barely won this match which in the initial stage looked like a lost cause for me. Facing against magic was a bad situation to be in and I wished I had prepare more against a magic lineup in the first place. It was fortunate that Redemption helped me in the end here.
KEY STRATEGY
My strategy was to use Redemption to hit every single enemy units and thus removed the Holy Protection from each of these units. It worked although I almost lost because I was outpowered by my opponent's magic attacks.
OTHER STRATEGIES
There are a few strategies to use in a Holy Protection ruleset. Redemption is one of them. Another strategy I would be to use Resurrection. A resurrected unit will gain back Holy Protection again and thus gain another round of protection. Blast is also a workable strategy especially if you can land the hit in the middle of the opponent lineup.

That's really a nice combination of two non attacking monsters with weapons training from the opponent.
Health of Aves Sturgis is a little pathetic that damage quickly against Amplify and magic reflect.
In contrary, best use of the Taunt monster with Ferexian hero . The most surprising package is Orella Abadon that got enough chance for bloodlust due to Taunt in battle squad.
Yes I kinda like the opponent lineup too and so have been trying it out when I have a chance too.
