BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! - Fog of War Ruleset

Hi Guys! In this post we are exploring on another Splinterlands ruleset. The ruleset we are focusing on is Fog of War.

In a Fog of War ruleset, all units will be unable to use Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities.

Lets take a look at a Modern Silver ranked match with Fog of War as one of the ruleset. The battle restrictions are:
Weak Magic and Fog of War with a max mana of 27. Only Fire, Life and Death splinters are allowed in this battle. The Video for the Full Battle can be seen here:

TEAM SETUP:

Splinter	Mana Cost	Position	Reason
Astral Entity	6	Summoner	Weak Magic is one of the ruleset in this match so I am not expecting to face too many magic units. Astral Entity is a very powerful summoner in a non-magic lineup because it gives Dodge to all your units as well as remove 2 armor from the enemy units.
Venari Marksrat	3	1st	This is my cannon fodder with Martyr ability. It is placed in the first position to die fast and boost the unit behind it.
Riftwing	4	2nd	My primary tank. Riftwing is actually an amazing tank in a non-magic match when paired with Astral Entity. This is because Riftwing is a Flying unit and with Dodge, enemy ground unit would have a 50% chance to miss when attacking it with melee or ranged attack. Plus Riftwing is also fast and thus the chance of hitting it is even lower. Then you add in the Backfire ability and Riftwing becomes a killing machine just by backfiring enemy units for missing their attack!
Revealer	4	3rd	I put Revealer in the lineup just purely for its Stun ability and not its magic damage.
Venari Bonesmith	4	4th	I placed a Venari Bonesmith also not for its magic damage but for its Poison ability.
Ravenhood Warden	4	5th	Shield is important in this matchup as in a Weak Magic ruleset, magic attack would need to destroy armor before it can hit the health of a unit. With Shield, my Riftwing would have better survivability even if there are magic units in the opposing lineup.
Xenith Archer	2	6th	As this is a Fog of War match, there is no point in putting any Sneak or Opportunity melee unit. A normal range or magic unit is a better option here so I put in Xenith Archer as it is the only 2 mana range/magic unit I have.

Opponent Lineup:

My opponent went with a Life splinter lineup with Truthspeaker giving shield to everyone in the lineup. However this is cancelled out by my Summoner's ability of removing 2 armor from all my opponent's unit. My opponent also didn't use a single magic unit in the lineup so this should be dodge fest for my Riftwing.

End of Round 1:

In the first round, my Venari Marksrat was killed. It was quickly resurrected by my summoner and got killed again. This series of actions triggered Martyr 2 times and give my Riftwing +2 to speed, armor and health! My Riftwing ended the turn with 6 speed, 4 armor and 11 health. Anything ground melee or ranged unit with 1 speed would have zero chance of hitting my Riftwing now.

End of Round 2:

My opponent missed every single attacks in this turn. The entire opponent ranged backline was wiped out by my Riftwing's Backfire. This was a joy to watch. Hitting my opponent units with Backfire is really fun and funny. Also note that Riftwing gets even more health whenever a unit died. My Riftwing ended the turn with 14 health.

End of Round 3:

Match ended in the 3rd round but it was very much over right from the start.

KEY STRATEGY
My strategy for this battle was build a unhittable Riftwing through the use of Martyr. This is why I put Venari Marksrat in the front position to die. Also the Resurrect ability of my summoner allow me to revive the Marksrat to give another round of Martyr to my Riftwing.

SUMMARY
In a Fog of War ruleset, melee units with Sneak or Opportunity are not able to hit from the backline. Avoid using these units else they will just be sitting there not contributing to damage every round until they reach the first position. Also since you don't have to worry about Sneak or Opportunity unit, you have less worry of putting high DPS unit with low health right at the back.
