The monologue - Monomad challenge (ENG-ESP)

Saludos hivers. Armando Reverón (1889-1954) fué uno de los artistas plásticos más destacados de Venezuela, conocido como "el pintor de la luz", fue precursor del arte povera, y pionero en expresiones artísticas como el happening y el ensamblaje artístico, entre otras, desarrolló su obra entre París, Barcelona y Madrid y está considerado como uno de los artistas más importantes del siglo XX en América.

Hello hivers. Armando Reverón (1889-1954) was one of the most prominent visual artists in Venezuela, known as "the painter of light", he was a precursor of the povera art, and a pioneer in artistic expressions such as happenings and artistic assemblages, among others. He developed his work between Paris, Barcelona and Madrid and is considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century in America.

Como todo artista plástico que se respete, Reverón, no solamente era conocido por su gran talento sino también por su excéntrica y volátil personalidad, la cual era una mezcla de genio deprimido y acosado por constantes ataques de psicosis y ermitaño tierno y primitivo. Su obra se extiende a más de 450 pinturas, 150 dibujos y una gran cantidad de otros objetos, destacando sus famosas muñecas de trapo de tamaño real y con detalles muy particulares.

Like any self-respecting plastic artist, Reverón was not only known for his great talent but also for his eccentric and volatile personality, which was a mixture of a depressed genius plagued by constant attacks of psychosis and a tender and primitive hermit. His work extends to more than 450 paintings, 150 drawings and a large number of other objects, highlighting his famous life-size rag dolls with very particular details.

These photos correspond to a monologue about Armando Reverón that was presented as the opening act to a very interesting exhibition of rag dolls that I attended last year And which you can see here.

"Mi obra fue lo mejor que hice en mi vida, es la imagen de un mundo diferente, luminoso, con fuerza, llena de misterio, para que el común se interese por la historia, la memoria, la identidad de los pueblos. ¡Yo soy la historia viva de este pueblo!" / "My work was the best thing I did in my life, it's the image of a different world, luminous, strong, full of mystery, so that the common people become interested in history, memory, the identity of people. I am the living history of this people!"

"No podía pintar sino amaneceres. Pintándolos se me olvidaban siempre las gaviotas. Debe ser porque el color de su vuelo tiene la luz en otras horas” / "I could only paint sunrises. When painting them I always forgot the seagulls. It must be because the color of their flight has the light at other times"

"Mis vecinos comenzaron a decir que estaba loco, no, no estaba loco, estaba triste y acongojado. Mis vecinos siempre decían que estaba loco, yo no estaba loco, para demostrar que no estaba loco comencé a pintar con más ahínco, con más fuerza, con más amor, buscando la luz" / "My neighbors began to say that I was crazy, no, I wasn't crazy, I was sad and distressed. My neighbors always said that I was crazy, I was not crazy, to prove that I wasn't crazy I began to paint with more zeal, with more strength, with more love, searching for the light"

"La luz, ¡qué cosa tan seria es la luz! ¿Cómo podemos conquistarla? Yo lo he intentado" / "Light, what a serious thing light is! How can we conquer it? I have tried"

"La pintura es la verdad; pero la luz es ciega, vuelve loco, atormenta, porque uno no puede ver la luz" / "Painting is the truth; but the light is blind, it drives you crazy, it torments, because one cannot see the light"

No recuerdo el nombre de este actor, sin embargo me gustó mucho la intensidad y la pasión con la que interpretó al gran maestro de la luz. Al buscar entre mis archivos fotográficos pensé que sería un buena idea pasar estas fotos a blanco y negro tomando en cuenta que para Reverón, la luz era su mayor inspiración y su más anhelado objetivo, y creo que este formato ayuda mucho a resaltar la luz en las imágenes.

I don't remember the name of this actor, however I really liked the intensity and passion with which he played the great master of light. When searching through my photographic archives I thought it would be a good idea to convert these photos to black and white taking into account that for Reveron, light was his greatest inspiration and his most desired objective, and I think that this format helps a lot to highlight the light in the images.
