Con el comienzo de la temporada de lluvia en Venezuela, la posibilidad de fotografiar insectos se multiplica, siempre he tenido buena suerte cuando se trata de tener encuentros con estos fascinantes seres vivos, pero reconozco que las lluvias me ayudan bastante jejeje.

Hello hivers and welcome to my blog. With the beginning of the rainy season in Venezuela, the possibility of photographing insects multiplies, I have always had good luck when it comes to having encounters with these fascinating living beings, but I admit that the rains help me a lot hehehe.

Hoy quiero presentarles a una especie de polilla que encontré en el piso de la planta baja de mi edificio, apenas la vi la agarré porque ahí corría peligro de que alguien la pisara así que la llevé al estacionamiento para luego dejarla en la vegetación que está detrás.

Today I want to introduce you to a type of moth that I found on the ground floor of my building. As soon as I saw her, I grabbed her because there was a danger of someone stepping on her, so I took her to the parking lot and then left her in the vegetation behind it.

Su cuerpo está cubierto por minúsculos pelos y tiene una textura aterciopelada / Her body is covered in tiny hairs and has a velvety texture

En la parte superior de su cabeza le faltaba pelo, me pregunto qué le habrá pasado 🤔 / She was missing hair on the top of her head, I wonder what happened to her 🤔

Esta polilla es una Eumorpha labruscae, y se le conoce como "Polilla llamativa", "Polilla vistosa" o "Polilla brasileña", pertenece a la familia de las esfinges (Sphingidae) y está distribuida en el continente americano, más que todo en el norte y el sur del mismo.

This moth is an Eumorpha labruscae, and is known as "Striking Moth", "Gaudy sphinx" or "Brazilian Moth", it belongs to the sphinx family (Sphingidae) and is distributed on the American continent, mostly in the north and south of it.

Las polillas Eumorpha labruscae se alimentan del néctar de las flores y son de hábitos nocturnos. Tienen una vida muy corta, viven entre 10-30 días. Son bastante grandes y tienen un cuerpo muy robusto.

Eumorpha labruscae moths feed on the nectar of flowers and are nocturnal. They have a very short life, they live between 10-30 days. They are quite large and have a very robust body.

La parte inferior de las alas tiene un color menos llamativo, sé que el par más pequeño de alas tienen un diseño de colores por la parte superior, pero, como estaba en reposo no las abrió totalmente así que no pude verlas 🤷🏻‍♀️ / The lower part of the wings has a less striking color, I know that the smaller pair of wings have a colored design on the upper part, but, since she was at rest, she didn't open them completely so I couldn't see them 🤷🏻‍♀️

Esta es la segunda polilla de la familia de las esfinges que me consigo, la primera la pueden ver aquí. En ambas oportunidades se portaron como excelentes modelos para mis fotos, no sé si fue porque son tranquilas y realmente les gustó ser fotografiadas, o porque son nocturnas y de día están más bien dormidas jajaja.

This is the second moth of the sphinx family that I have gotten, you can see the first one here. On both occasions they acted as excellent models for my photos, I don't know if it was because they are calm and really liked being photographed, or because they are nocturnal and during the day they are rather asleep hahaha.

Me encantó su color verde oliva y esos enormes ojos que parecen unos lentes jejeje. Poder interactuar con ella y observarla de cerca fue muy interesante, la forma totalmente aerodinámica de sus alas de seguro sirvió de inspiración para varios modelos de aviones.

I loved her olive green color and those huge eyes that look like glasses hehehe. Being able to interact with her and observe her up close was very interesting, the completely aerodynamic shape of her wings surely served as inspiration for several airplane models.
