Original Pokemon cards - Collecting the base set unlimited and Promo Mewtwo

Reliving the old days of owning Pokemon cards

The 90's were such a wonderful time for me but without going on about all the different things, I am here to talk about the original base set Pokemon cards that came out in the late 90's.

When they were released my parents got my the starter deck like many kids got, but also some booster packs after that so I would have additional cards to collect. Unfortunately I don't have my original collection of cards and forget why, probably were sold off or I stopped playing with them and they got lost at some point, which I am sad about now and one of the reasons why I am getting original cards once again.

Getting the cards has more value to me due to nostalgic value and I get the satisfaction and happy feeling to know they are in my possession and I get to look at them whenever I want, which I do most days, I have a quick look before doing something once or twice every second day/every day I look at them.

First I will start with the Mewtwo promo card that came for free with your ticket to see Pokemon: The First Movie and I know I had the Mewtwo back as a kid and I did go see it in the first week and loved the movie and the card, so it was the first one I ordered for the collection. I am due to watch the movie again, it's been too long but I still love the movie to this day!

Next up in the list are some great holographic cards that I wanted, some were cheaper, some were the best pick for the money I had to be able to afford more Pokemon cards and some I remember looking at and holding as a kid.

I never had Mewtwo or the Fossil set Zapdos as a kid, the Mewtwo was decently priced and in pretty alright condition so I wanted to snatch it while I was able to and was buying additional cards and looks nice next to the Promo Mewtwo. Next is the Fossil set Zapdos that I may have paid a little more than I should've for it's condition, but the nostalgic value makes it worthwhile so I do not mind at all.

Now we have one card I remember having or getting off someone as a trade, plus another I remember holding and seeing but not sure if I actually had it. Either way I added them to the collection and I look at the price and condition of cards before I buy.

The first is Vaporean and was part of the first lot along with that Zapdos, it was decently priced as well for a pretty good condition of the card. Then the Victreebel I remember I held and saw it but it might have been a friend with the card, not myself. I got this in the second lot along with the Mewtwo as my two holographic picks.

Final holographic card I got because it was cheap when buying the first lot of cards, plus added another holo to the collection and that is Hitmonchan and in pretty good condition as well. This one doesn't have any nostalgic value besides being the original base set so it is only a small amount. But along with each purpose you will find me buying some cards that are common, uncommon or trainer cards, because most are only a few dollars so it's good to get them at the same time when the holographics are sent, which some also have nostalgic value like Zubat, Eevee, Growlithe, Staryu and The Mysterious Fossil.

So I have no real purpose to sell these cards, not when I got them for the nostalgia and my collection, to display them in time and to enjoy having them and looking at them. Maybe if I got doubles because I found some at a garage sale cheap or something like that.

For now I won't be buying any for at least a couple of months since I cannot afford it right now, got something else I am getting next week that will be costing me a few hundred dollars.

But do you have any original base set Pokemon cards? Or did you have some? What memories if any, do you have of them or would you have liked to have them?
