Rainbows, butterflies and compromise

zlooknotherwicklrebbenthabber.jpg

If life was all rainbows and butterflies it'd be great...but life can suck major ass at times and it's in those moments when a person needs to work the hardest...what is a life of rainbows and butterflies? It means a good or great life but while life may be good currently it might not always be; a human life is filled with twists and turns and often comes with unpleasantness along the way, quite often when a person least expects it.

Speaking personally, I'm happy to say I've created some tremendously successful moments and have some amazing things in my life but the opposite is also true; I've had some of the most terrible things occur and somewhere in the middle has been the rest of my life which, again I'm pleased to say, has been largely good, acceptable and sometimes even splendid. I think it'd be pretty sad should a person not be able to find something to celebrate or be happy with in their life; it's those little things that inspire one to seek more, or so it is with me.

For most of us life is a compromise, a balance between good and bad, happy and sad, positive and negative, success and failure...whatever way you look at it life is balance, a compromise. It'll not be all bad or all good however dwelling on one or the other won't move it forward in any better way I think; one must seek to improve, to make improvements, not sit back and do nothing.

I've spent a lot of my life seeking to continually improve the life I have and myself personally and have had success, and failure, along the way. I've taken little moments to celebrate wins and to think about, wallow in, the losses but standing in place and not moving forward from either isn't going to get me anywhere and because my life is ahead of me, forward is the way I want to be moving...while enjoying the present of course.

I've compromised in life, done this when I wanted to do that, held back when every fibre of my being says otherwise and other such things, most probably have done the same, but there's some compromises that should never be made, life is too short to allow that to happen. Do you feel time (and your life) is moving too fast? Yep, that's because it is. So, there's never a better time than now (I mean in the present moment) to think about how best to move forward, where one wants to go with life, and to actually take the steps to make it happen...that should never be compromised.

Do you have any thoughts on the topic? If you've got something to add or comment on please go ahead, there's no obligation though, I'd not want you to compromise your own life by doing something that won't add value to it.

Yes, twists and turns also; it's not a straight path from one point to another.

What really strike me the most is this line

For most of us life is a compromise, a balance between good and bad, happy and sad, positive and negative, success and failure...whatever way you look at it life is balance, a compromise.

I remember reading a book titled The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck, where the author mentioned that life isn't all about happiness, good, and positive, and success. One also accept the fact that life may throw stones at you and you should face it instead of avoiding. Life is balance, and it should be :))

Life will throw challenges in front of us, I don't think it's avoidable. What matters is not that those challenges have come, but what we do when they arrive.

I've read that book also and it's a good one.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Life is a perfect gift. I've come to learn that both the good and the bad experiences we undergo in life are the basic components that enhances our success. Just like the sweet substances and the bitter substances make the body healthy, the ups and the downs experiences in life strengthens our feet and help us make fruitful progress in life. Thank you for the insight.

I don't think anything is ever perfect, but I know what you're getting at and life is definitely a valuable thing.

I can tell you're on the same page as me as you pretty much summers up what I wrote completely.

Hi Galen, Thank you for addressing this issue. compromise is everything, it's what keeps you afloat in times of heartache and doubt. And compromise is what binds me to the people I love, family and friends, even in bad times.

Have a good weekend.

It's something most people apply at some stage, the smart ones, although there's a time when compromising can be detrimental, compromising ones integrity for instance.

Have a good Saturday.

Totally agree, it is good to underline the point of integrity. Have a nice end of Saturday and a great Sunday.

I agree. I think life is full of compromises, we make do with what we have, and what we think is right at the moment. Parents usually stop pursuing their dreams to take care of their child. Injury or sickness can prevent an athlete from going pro. Or maybe just even realizing one's limitations can change their outlook. Chasing one's dreams and having a no quit attitude is often celebrated and encouraged; which isn't bad. But there are times when compromise is needed too.

I've had some of the most terrible things occur

In my life, once I've had enough time to process what went wrong I ended up realizing that things were actually better after the terrible things happened and obviously I am not talking about injury or death of a loved one or pet but just for 3 examples: A harsh breakup, losing a job, and also having valuable staff members quit. At the end of all 3 of these major milestones in my life I found out that I was better off on the other side even though they were all very difficult to deal with at the time.

but before I hijack your story yes, life is a compromise and I think that is true for almost anyone.

All sorts of things influence a person one way or another, positively and negatively; I think the trick is to accept that whatever the thing was happened and then to determine how best to react.

In your cases, you emerged out the other side intact and those things (the lessons learned) probably helped you thrive moving forward. Isn't it cool when something positive comes out of a negative? Of course, some of those happenings can be tragic, soul-destroying, things...but even then there's benefits to be found (mostly).

Ahhhh...

That whole Rainbow 🌈 crap is why I started trucking. Young and dumb chasing that pot of gold. Made the best of it once I realized that evil Leprechaun was fuckin' wit me...

untitled.gif

No pot o gold at the end of em. I have seen thousands. Proof...

The day I realized that. I stuck my toe in the Ocean along the pacific coast highway.

If that leprechaun came at me I'd punch the cunt in the throat. Lol.

Cool rainbows man. I have to admit that I like rainbows, so pretty, and because I spend a lot of time in remote places I've seen some crackers.

You at the ranch this weekend or rollin'?

Been home for a week. My gravy train derailed. Shipper cut our throats. I will not run it for what they are paying now.

Not sure how this is gonna play out. I just will not go back to running harder for less.

Yep, that's happening here. It used to be that a trucker could rely on loads and now $650,000 of rig and all that experience counts for jack shit.

I believe that in life failures exist to teach us things and to learn, so are they really failures or just steps on a ladder that leads us to be better?

Some people go through more bad things, others less, I think it depends on what that person needs to learn and I wanted to learn a lot since I was a teenager, since always.

The good moments are like an oasis that I enjoy a lot, like small victories until I reach the end of the ladder.

From everything you can improve and move forward and become a better human being...

Hug Galen

As a person who helps students with social and emotional issues, my wife struggles a lot with trying to explain to kids that life isn't always rainbows and butterflies. It's a fine line between destroying their hope and helping them realize that there will be hard times, but that's okay, those hard times make us stronger. My wife does an amazing job at it!

That's a tough job so well done to her for taking it on. I hope she's making a difference to some.

I get that, it can sometimes seem futile, but I'm sure there's some good value being taken away.

My theory is that if you can look back on your life at any time and the majority of it has been fairly decent or at least mostly content, then that is about the best you can ask for. Being a human animal, you can never guess what things you may go through or what may happen and for the emotional side of things, you can't control what others do and people WILL do things that don't make you happy. That's life.... there is just no such thing as a perfect one, but I do think we should all purposely try to find as much happiness as we can along the journey.

I think trying to help add some happiness to the lives of those around you is a good idea too. You simply can't do good things for others without it giving a little happiness back to you.

You've said it pretty well and I've little to add. I think it takes some time to reach this point of thought, they say youth is wasted on the young, but it's also about experiences and how a person takes them on board, what they do next.
