My First Ever LEGO and the Story behind of it

Hello block builders!

This is Gabriela and even if it's my first time posting in this community, as well as my first LEGO build, I've been chasing these toys for the last couple of years dreaming of the day when I'll begin my collection.

As a gamer and puzzle lover, I've always wanted to have some LEGOs in my collection especially since there are plenty of them that caught my attention already. However, I have a few friends who are collecting LEGOs and they always said that once you begin, you can never stop craving for more. And while we know that this passion is not a cheap one, I decided to postpone the moment for a little bit longer.

However, with the occasion of being my birthday on the 1st of September, I've got the question of what present I'd like to receive and obviously, I mentioned the word "LEGO" almost right away. The story behind of what LEGO was picked as a gift for me though, is a bit funnier.

My sister has recently got into a relationship with a guy whose name is Dovis, but as he's not Romanian, nor have a Romanian name, the first time she mentioned his name I understood it as Dobis, or something like that, making it in short as Dobby.

If you are a Harry Potter fan as I am, you might feel "Dobby" at least familiar. So I ended up giving him the nickname of Dobby which amused him really bad. In fact, what better way to learn his name other than offering the Dobby LEGO as a gift, and introduce himself again as Dovi? haha. So, here it is Dobby.

Dobby, most likely any other LEGO out there, came with separate bags with numbers on them and a guide with step-by-step images about how to build it.

Sadly, the day I received this was when I had lots of work to do but as the excitement was on a new level, I decided to still build Dobby but in between emails and projects, hence why you will see one of my monitors with emails as part of it.

The LEGO is composed of four different parts: the sock, Dobby, the book and the cake.

And the building stuff began with the easiest part, the sock, which you can see above.

Sadly, I only realized that I could take some pictures and use them for a post on here when I was already having a bit of Dobby done, so that's why you'll see parts of his body already ready.

However, building Dobby was the most exciting part, not only because of the complexity of having everything together since there were a lot more pieces than for the rest of the elements, but also because he has a little heart stored inside his chest that can't be seen because of the other pieces covering it. Felt like an easter egg and definitely so lovely!

Now.. the fun part. Having the head completed!

I might be a weirdo but for some seconds I thought about keeping him without the ears attached as he seemed so funny! Can anyone relate?

Oh, and building the head is not the last part of Dobby as there is also a little stand that will put him on just like a trophy. You have to even stick the name to it. So sad I couldn't write down there Dovi instead of Dobby haha!

Next up there was the book, which I really enjoyed seeing it come with no pages as you could fix it as you wish and even add some small elements inside, just like the sock I built at the beginning.

Sadly, that's a bit hard to stay still because it adds too much weight and Dobby's hands are really fragile, but still makes it look like a bookworm, lol.

And last but not least... the cake! Right in time for my birthday celebration even though it seemed more like a wedding cake based on its size and form.

Over here I took advantage of the spare parts and decorated the top of it in my own style, so don't be surprised to see things that don't belong there.

And, as a genuine bookworm, Dobby found his place on one of the shelves that is filled with some books I've read recently. I expected him to be a bit bigger once is done but I can't complain too much as it really looks like belonging perfectly to that part of my house.

Oh, and the addiction is real! I am already making plans for the next two LEGOs that I'll get on my own which would be so much in theme with some of my other passions.

Haha weirdly enough, Dobby looks like it's a paper from afar instead of a lego. Are you gonna be able to build the lego without instructions? I've never had one so I don't know if that's possible haha but I know for sure some people just use their imagination to create random stuff once they're kinda bored with the finished project.

Si es posible hacerlo pero hay que saber bien dónde vá cada pieza creo 🤔

I can relate with having Dobby look like being made of paper as it is quite fragile and feels like a paper too, lol. But I doubt you can create it without using the guide.

I used to believe the same before having my first LEGO but honestly there are so many pieces (some of them are that small that you barely can hold with your fingers but rather use a tweezers) that will make it impossible to figure out where it goes each. There are the pieces from the surface that are a bit bigger and easier to figure out only by looking at the image from the box, but there are plenty of pieces inside which can't even be seen, like building the heart and the lungs inside the chest! It's crazy and fun at the same time and definitely an experience that everyone should have. There are lots of flowers LEGOs which seem really interesting too. The actual test is on the technical vehicles where you have to do the whole engine part 👀

Also, I'm happy to see you stopping by my post. I've seen the comment on YouTube too. Such a beautiful surprise! Thank you and I hope you are well ❤️

Oh haha. Yeah that really looks impossible without a manual. I guess it's a similar feeling when assembling furniture that's why building a lego is fun. :D

Happy belated birthday Gabby!

The Lego sets are becoming so complex nowadays, I never realised they came with instructions. I've seen some people build things that are totally different from what they're intended to be. Any plans to do that?

Thanks so much my dear!

I can agree with the complex part. I've seen some that are rather scary than interesting based on how many pieces they come with making you feel like an entire life won't be enough to complete them, lol.

I know what you mean by having some LEGOs turning out way different than what they should, but honestly I don't think my creativity is enough for that. You really need a lot of time to analyse each piece and do the math thing to find them work in a different way than what they were created for, as they have very strict use determined.

If I'll ever become a master into LEGOs, then this skill might be developed, but based on how expensive they are, I doubt I'll ever have many enough for developing this activity.

he is cute (though haven't a clue who he is!), I have never done lego since I was a kid they now seem so complex and for my big sausage fingers a bit perhaps fiddly. Is it as much fun as doing a wasgij? that's how I tend to spend the winter days

By wasgij you mean puzzles? If so, LEGOs are a lot more fun! Like a next level, I could say.
I am addicted to making puzzles but after building a LEGO makes me want to dismantle it and start it all over again until I will have a new one to build. Both fun and relaxing!

wasgij..... ( jigsaw in reverse is a unique style of puzzle
