Greetings fellow craft lovers. Although I am not eligible as a participant for the community contest, I did want to make my entry and present it in my style, making a nutcracker made with plasticine.

I present to you, then, this short tutorial, I hope you like it.

Saludos amigos amantes de las manualidades. Aunque no soy elegible como participante para el concurso de la comunidad, sí quería hacer mi entrada y presentarla a mi estilo, haciendo un cascanueces hecho con plastilina.

Les presento pues, este breve tutorial, espero que les guste.

Step by step

To begin with, we need to define the materials. To make this craft I used the following:

• Plasticine
• Wooden sticks
• Wire
• Wire

Notice that I used the wooden sticks as a base for the legs. I cut a wire in the shape of an L and attached it with thread to the base of the wooden sticks, these would be the legs of the nutcracker.

Paso a paso

Para empezar, hay que definir los materiales. Para hacer esta manualidad utilicé lo siguiente:

• Palillos de madera
• Alambre
• Hilo

Fíjense que los palillos de madera los utilicé como base para las piernas. Corté un alambre en forma de L y lo sujeté con hilo en la base del palillos de madera, estas serían las piernas del cascanuces.

To make the boots I used black plasticine, which I began to apply on the sticks, trying to mold it in such a way that it would have a cylindrical shape.

The front part that had wire, I also covered it with plasticine, specifically with two squares of plasticine.

Para hacer las botas utilicé plastilina de color negro, la cual comencé a aplicar sobre los palillos, tratando de moldearlo de tal manera que quedara con forma cilíndrica.

La parte delantera que tenía alambre, también la cubrí con plastilina, específicamente con dos cuadros de plastilina.

Although the boots were black, I wanted to add two more colors to give a lot of color to this nutcracker. I made the knees in yellow and the thighs in red. I molded everything following the same cylindrical shape.

Aunque las botas eran de color negro, quise agregar dos colores más para darles mucho color a este cascanueces. Hice las rodillas de color amarillo y los muslos de color rojo. Todo lo moldeé siguiendo la misma forma cilíndrica.

For the body of the nutcracker I created a shape similar to that of a cylinder, only a little flattened. In the base I made a couple of holes to fix the wood of the legs, so they would be well fastened. Put in place, I also placed a small wooden stick to keep the distance between one leg and the other.

Para el cuerpo del cascanueces creé una forma parecida a la de un cilindro, solo que un poco aplastado. En la base le hice un par de agujeros para fijar bien la madera de las piernas, así quedarían bien sujetar. Puestas en su lugar, también coloqué un pequeño palillo de madera para mantener la distancia entre una pierna y la otra.

At this point, I added a long strip of blue plasticine for the nutcracker's waist, which I embellished with a small black belt with a yellow buckle, as you can see in the picture below:

En este punto, agregué una larga tira de plastilina azul para la cintura del cascanueces, la cual adorné con un pequeño cinturón negro de hebilla amarilla, tal como pueden observar en la fotografía a continuación:

Before continuing with the torso, I made the arms. To make them I simply used two long wooden sticks and covered them with blue plasticine, the same as the torso.

Once this was done, I placed two spheres that would be the fists and two strips of plasticine on what would be the wrists.

Antes de continuar con el torso, hice los brazos. Para hacerlos simplemente utilicé dos palillos largos de madera y los cubrí con plastilina azul, la misma del torso.

Una vez hecho esto, le coloqué dos esferas que serían los puños y dos tiras de plastilina en lo que serían las muñecas.

Well, I continued with the torso by placing ornaments that this nutcracker has on it. Although I would use paint to color them gold, I used yellow so there wouldn't be so much color contrast when painting.

Once that was done, I put the arms in place to see how they looked.

Bien, continué con el torso colocando adornos que lleva este cascanueces allí. Aunque usaría pintura para colorearlos de dorado, usé el amarillo para que no hubiera tanto contraste de color a la hora de pintar.

Una vez hecho esto, coloqué los brazos en su lugar para ver cómo quedaban.

I just removed the pieces again to paint certain details with the gold, so they would all look very nice. Then I put them back in place, as you can see.

Solo retiré las piezas otra vez para pintar ciertos detalles con el dorado, así lucirían muy bien todas. Luego las coloqué en su lugar de nuevo, tal como pueden observar.

The next thing I worked with was the head, which I made with light skin colored plasticine. I used a sharp toothpick, which I placed at the base of the head, to attach it to the torso of the nutcracker.

Lo siguiente con lo que trabajé fue la cabeza, la cual hice con plastilina color piel clara. Usé un palillo afilado, el cual coloqué en la base de la cabeza, para fijarlo en el torso del cascanueces.

At this point I started to add details of the face. I made the nose as if it were a huge piece of plasticine. I also added the eyes, eyebrows and mustache. The long white hair and the beard.

Ya en este punto comencé a agregar detalles de la cara. La nariz la hice como si fuese un trozo enorme de plastilina. También le coloqué los ojos, las cejas el bigote. El cabello largo y blanco, igual que la barba.

The last step was the hat. I made it with black plasticine, creating the cylinder, then I cut small thin strips to decorate the black background of the hat. I also painted the base of the hat yellow.

Once I joined all the pieces of this accessory, I put it in place.

El último paso fue el sombrero. Este lo hice con plastilina negra, creando el cilindro, luego corté pequeñas tiras delgadas para adornar el fondo negro del mismo. La base del sombrero también la pinté de color amarillo.

Una vez uní todas las piezas de este accesorio, lo coloqué en su lugar.
