The Life Saver
Hi all this is @furiousboy and this is my post submission for this week's contest.
Talking about first aid this is the very basic and first-life survival skill a school should teach its students and I believe at least in India there are few schools that are really keeping an eye on their student's learning of academics and extracurricular learning like first aid, and survival skills teaching. Though I was really lucky or one can say very privileged that my school understood the importance of academic learning and extracurricular learning but I am not sure of the reason might be because it was a semi-government school or the board of directors were keen on what they would like to teach their students.
We had different activities learning like karate, volleyball, dodgeball, rope skipping, and many more we used to have "Hastkala" a popular form of art where every item, art, decoration, or anything else is made by our own hands and it is been placed in an exhibition, though the best part of my learning was "Scout and Guide". A form of learning where we were taught how to put up a camp, a fire, a stretcher, and many more such things. This was one of the compulsory learning parts which really shaped us in learning important survival skills.
So it was a school camp where, for the first time my study of first aid came into help so we were at a camp on the outskirts of the city and we were divided into groups of 7 people consisting of 5 boys and 2 girls in each group, and it was around the beginning of the winter season when we had the camp it was a good nice sunny day on the morning and we were having fun, in the camp making food on our own having a born fire searching for fire wood it was really like a adventure for us but then suddenly one of the girls from the other group went missing since we were suppose to report to the camp once we are done with the scouting of the nearby area for fresh water source, fruits and fire wood.
After a while, the guys from the other group started for searching the girl and they came by to our camp and told us about the same we all started searching for the girl as the sun started setting down we were scared and thought to let our teachers know about it and then we reached out to our teachers and told them about the same, and then we again started to search for her but then it started raining and it was pouring water everywhere which made it difficult for searching her and then after a long search we found her under a tree soaking wet and crying as she could not stand because of an ankle sprain.
We were a total of 3 boys who found her and it was raining heavily so it was no help to shout and try to make aware of our location to our friends or teachers, and as she was in pain we thought that we now had to carry her to the base camp and then we created a stretcher from ropes and long thick sticks and I made her a supporter on her leg using stick and cloth tying the stick with cloth on her ankle and securing it so that it won't move if we carry her around which will make sure that her leg doesn't get any more damage it was a technique which was used in old time to make fracture so that the bones get support and can be joined again if it was broken.
After that, we took her to the camp and got her pain killers and our teacher took her to the hospital and we continued our camping and after we returned to the school we 3 boys got a medal for our life-saving effort and our critical thinking to get the girl to the camp instead of waiting in the rain as her ankle was swollen and near her ankle, the blood was clot which resulted in serious issue and if we waited for any more she could have lost her leg because of the blood getting worsen due to the injury which resulted in tearing of the blood vessel, and that how the teaching of first aid helped me and we could save the girl.
Thanks for stopping by and keeping reading and keep supporting me.
