My kind of holiday list

Hi all this is @furiousboy and this is my post submission for this week's contest.

Talking about holidays in this Indian working culture it's pretty much 50-50 throughout the scenario as I can say that there are certain organizations that are quite good in terms of their work environment and culture providing decent leaves paid leaves holidays and all of these things to the employees and then there are certain organizations which lack in these segments so if I would like to segregate the holidays based on which are useful to the employees being an employee in India very firstly it would be all the bank holidays, I have observed very closely that when there are bank holidays the mostly there won't be that much of work in many offices expect few, but most of them are pretty much empty only even employees don't strength reduces to a certain extend, so I believe bank holiday should be given off.

As India is a country of many festivals, occasions, and celebrations where every small thing is celebrated on a big scale, and having diverse religions there would be different celebrations from a different community or religion now and then so keeping all those holidays would affect the economy of the country and organization, and then there are weekends as well so I think having all the bank holidays with weekends will sum up to a good list of holidays were as an employee I would not be wasting my time working.

With bank holidays off and weekends even if did not sum up to a good total I think working on state-specific holidays would be a waste of time, as India has 29 states there are some specific holidays celebrated on a large scale by some states people and it holds deep values to them so like Maharashtra state has Ganesh Chaturthi, Shivaji Jayanti, Gudi padwa, etc. these are some festivals which are dear to Maharashtrians (Marathi language speaking people) so I have notices people on such occasions usually don't want to spend their time while working in the office they want to spend time with their family and friends, and this not just with Maharashtra, the other states have such festivals which hold a significant value for them which are dear to them like Gujrat has Navratri, Uttran, etc. Punjab has Lohri, Karvachauth, etc.

But with changing times and the changing attitude of the employees most of the people are demanding for a hybrid model of working and even if they are getting a little less amount of holidays, they would be co-operative, and with the hybrid model the employee saves a lot of time and at the same time the employer save some money on daily wedges and this helps the employee of not wasting their time of reaching on extreme weather conditions such as when there is too much of heavy rain nobody would like to come to office as the transportation get effective due to heavy rain, so the employee would like to take a leave as most of the employee will have to take a leave due to such weather, and with rainy season when it's summer it's the same story extreme heat can be harmful to some and it gets difficult to travel on such sunny day.

So for me, I believe all bank holidays and state-specific holidays is an good option for leave and it would be the best policy of leave. Thanks for reading until next time, and please do share your thoughts what do you think.

I absolutely agree with you @furiousboy. In my country only few companies, bank workers and civil servants really observe holiday. Most private business owners deny their workers holiday entirely

Yes brother, this is a global issue, you can observe such practices in many private sectors, and I think someone should talk about it and get a solution.

In our country private working people are not given holidays at all, festivals are also held but those people are not given any kind of leave until they complete their work and if any person is on top of his work. If he arrives late, his money was cut.

That's really sad to hear, and I think this is the kind of thing which we have to change globally and not just in you country there are many such places, organisations which are working in the same manner.

I didn't know that a state could be on holiday while others are not, at least now I know😁

Yeah it's pretty much like there is a holiday which is dear to people from one state but it's kind of an ok festival in another state, it is a holiday for everyone around India but people from different states won't be celebrating it on large scale so it's ok for them even if they don't get it.
