Sweet and Savory Local Delights... Nonya Kueh & Fried Hokkien Mee

I indulged in a food coma yesterday by enjoying two of my favorite dishes. These delicious but high-ingredient foods are typically recommended only in moderation. I had the popular Fried Hokkien Mee and an assortment of Kueh flavors from Nonya Bites.

I recently discovered a Kueh stall at the Golden Mile Food Centre and was impressed by the high-quality Kueh they make. After trying some, it instantly became one of my favorites. I ended up ordering three packs of assorted Kueh. While I couldn’t catch all their names, I remember a few: Matcha for the green-and-white combination, Brown Sugar Coconut for the brown one, and Sweet Potato for the multi-colored Kueh.

The matcha-flavored Kueh has become my favorite among the three types because it isn’t overly sweet, and the flavor is perfectly suited to my preference. It’s creamy, with a slight hint of saltiness from the white cheese on top.

The sweet potato Kueh has a distinct, earthy flavor. It strikes a nice balance between sweetness and a slight creaminess.

The brown sugar coconut Kueh has a nice textural balance between the soft, creamy Kueh and the coconut shavings. I appreciate the quality of the coconut shavings because they’re not as tough as those I’ve tried before. The Kueh also has just the right amount of flavor, making it one of the best I’ve had during this meal.

Of course, I had to order a savory dish to go along with these delightful Kuehs! I chose Fried Hokkien Mee because it had been a while since I last had it. Since I was already at the Golden Mile Food Centre, I figured I might as well try one of the most popular dishes in the complex. There are many stalls competing for the title of the best Hokkien Mee!

It was a truly satisfying meal, with each dish offering a unique and delightful experience. The combination of savory and sweet flavors, along with the high quality of the food, made for an unforgettable culinary adventure. I’ll definitely be returning to explore more hidden gems at the Golden Mile Food Centre!

My journey to the world of food.

Golden Mile Food Centre is a land of treasures! The hokkien mee I somehow prefer the one at the basement. If you back there can give it a shot.
