Famous Wanton Mee by Hua Kee (Hougang)
This is one of the foods that’s good, and affordable, and there’s none to complain about… Wanton Noodle!
I was unaware that I was ordering at a legitimately famous hawker stall at the Old Airport Road food center. I realized it when I was taking a photo of the menu and signboard which boasts their achievements over the years.
I chose the version without chili because I’m not a fan of spicy food. Many will confirm that the spicy version tastes better, I’m agreeable with it as well. I guess a good reason for that is the chili paste adds a good amount of flavor to the dish. It also adds a kick to every bite.
There are 3 components of the dish: egg noodles, char siew, and wantons.
The sauce is a mixture of sesame oil, soy sauce, and a touch of vinegar.
For S$4, this dish is among the last standing good food under S$5. While the majority has increased their prices to above S$5, I’m amazed to see a hawker stall that offers quality food for the masses.
Aside from the Wanton Mee, I also bought some bread from the bakery.
This Oreo Yeah is my preferred type of bread. It’s doughy and it’s filled with sweet-creamy custard. The Oreo cookie on top of it is also a nice touch.
The Old Airport Road food centre is still crowded even though it’s already 9:00 in the evening 😅.
