Discovering the Joy of a Vegetable-Based Dinner

During lunchtime, I felt so full that I wasn't hungry even by dinner. But, not wanting to skip a meal, I decided to head out for dinner anyway. I wasn't sure what I wanted, so I went to my usual Teochew-style restaurant to see what freshly cooked dishes they had. Surprisingly, every dish I chose was vegetable-based!

I ended up with braised mushrooms, sautéed pumpkin, and cabbage.

This was quite unusual for me, as I typically go for a combination of meat and vegetables. However, this time I unconsciously picked dishes without any meat. The mushrooms were a great alternative source of protein, so I wasn't too concerned.

Braised mushrooms are one of my favorite dishes from this place. They taste amazing, and the texture is so satisfying. It's almost like eating meat—the texture is similar, and the flavor is as rich as braised meat. I don't know how they manage to achieve this consistency and flavor, but it's impressive.

One of the vegetable dishes I chose was pumpkin, which I often pick because it's delicious and packed with nutritional benefits. It's a great source of vitamin A and boosts the immune system. This dish also came with mushrooms and green peas, which I love.

The sautéed cabbage, prepared with dried shrimp, is one of my favorite ways to enjoy this vegetable. The dried shrimp adds an umami-packed punch, making the cabbage incredibly satisfying and flavorful.

Overall, this unexpected vegetarian meal turned out to be a delightful surprise. It reminded me of the diverse and delicious options available, even without meat. I'm looking forward to exploring more vegetable-based dishes in the future, as they offer a refreshing change and plenty of flavors!
