A weekend experience at the Singapore Botanic Gardens

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens and experience a piece of nature that was built for us to interact with. The Botanic Garden is a garden that was nurtured alongside the existing nature that was there before it. I was impressed by the use of technology to simulate a jungle-like experience for the visitors while still providing an area for people to do picnics or other family activities as well. There are specific areas in the garden that made me feel like I was entering a jungle while there are areas that made me feel like I was walking in a park as well.

It was an experience that gave me a realization of the importance of taking care of the nature that surrounds me. At the end of my walk, I was able to visit the museum where they provided us with more awareness about the importance of maintaining nature itself and the possible consequences if we don't.

I started my journey from the Tanglin Gate at the side of Orchard Road. It has an imposing metal gate that has a beautiful metalwork design.

As soon as I enter the gate, I was welcomed by a nice fish pond that has several dozens of small fishes swimming in it. The pond also features a wall that has engravings on its surface. This is the part of the garden that still feels manmade like how a usual park will look like.

From this point I have entered the part of the garden that made me feel like I’m in a forest. There are huge century old trees that was well protected and there’s also a stream that consistently flows through a series of passages along the trees.

While I’m on my way deep into the jungle-like experience of the garden, I found myself amazed by a bunch of seeds that appear to be growing along the side of the stream.

After passing through this area, I found an exit that leads me to the biggest tree in the garden. The thrill felt like I discovered the “Mother Tree”, reference to the Avatar movie.

From here, it’s mostly learning the interesting plants and trees that was curated for the Gardens.

There’s a Banana plant that’s already blooming flowers even though it looks young & small.

I also discovered a palm tree that’s called Double Coconut because it’s both male and female which means it can propagate by itself.

There is also a section of the Gardens where there are plenty of growing Plumerias. The scene feels like a perfect venue for a romantic movie.

Across the Plumeria garden is a gazebo that is popular for wedding photography, during this day there was an on going photo session in front of it.

Across the gazebo is a section of the Gardens that is currently under construction, it has the plants that can be found in arid or desert regions.

After a quick tour of the desert region, I went to the waterfall area where people may enter to take a photo of them.

The last section of the Gardens that I visited is the Lotus pond.

Before I left the place, I visited one of the exhibits that they have where I immersed myself with learning about natural ecosystem and the negative effects when we fail to take good care of it.

Visiting the Botanic Gardens was a fun experience. It allowed me to relax while experiencing the thrill of discovering about the interesting things about nature. It also allowed me to learn more about nature on a personal level and not just through the books or online webpages. I’m recommending this place to everyone who are visiting Singapore in the future.

My journey to the world of places.
