A Teochew-style late dinner
It’s already late, there are few options left, so I went to a safe choice of going to my favorite Teochew-style food place, Heng Leong Teochew Rice and Porridge. It’s a good option during this hour because of its affordability and nice food as well. The dishes that they serve are not made to order. It’s all pre-cooked but it’s still okay because easily dish out the food and replenish them right away.
I like this kind of place where I can simply point to a dish that I want to be added into my plate. It’s like a buffet-style dining but there’s no fix price per customer. I would only need to pay for the items that I order and the pricing is decided by the server 😅.
I’ve been going here for many times now but until now I still don’t get how they price the dishes, lol. Sometimes, it feels cheaper while there are times when it feels like it’s more expensive.
Tonight, here are the dishes that I ordered.
I got myself a bowl of rice, Sautéed eggplant, stewed pork, and Tau Kee. I always order Tau Kee whenever I go to this place because it has an interesting texture and a subtle taste too.
I rarely eat eggplant but the recipe that they used to cooked this dish is good. It’s soft yet it stays firm. The flavor comes from the soy sauce and the fermented shrimp and soya beans.
For me, this is an enjoyable meal!
Yay! Thanks a bunch @brumest & the rest of @qurator for the awesome support 🙏

The selection is vast! Buffet-style foods are something that I love.Eggplants with shrimp paste is one of my favorite dish, usually I just have it fried to keep it's firmness.
