A Cozy Curry Experience at Food Republic

There are plenty of types of curry available in my area, with Indian, Chinese, Thai, and Japanese curry being the most popular. Among these, the Japanese version has always been my go-to choice whenever I’m craving curry. I find it has the perfect balance of flavor, taste, and seasoning that I prefer.

Tonight’s dinner is a curry dish from Washoku Goen, one of the stalls in the Food Republic food court. I prefer this stall for its quality, generous portions, and affordability. This large serving of Tonkatsu curry rice costs only around S$8, which is a great price considering the quality of the food and the setting.

What I like about this place is its ambiance and spacious dining area. While it may not be as roomy as high-end restaurants, this particular food court feels comfortable to me. There are plenty of tables to choose from, including long bench-style seats with nice cushions. For this meal, I opted for the usual tables and chairs, as the nicer ones were already occupied.

The surrounding walls are also decorated to create a cozy, homey feel, making the dining experience pleasant. I believe these kinds of designs will attract more customers in the long run.

As for the food, this type of curry has a nice balance between savory and sweet flavors. I also enjoy its subtle flavor profile and aroma.

The pork tonkatsu was a bit dry, likely because it was pre-cooked and left hanging over the fryer, which may have affected its tenderness and juiciness. However, the curry made it more palatable by adding flavor and depth.

Overall, this meal was satisfying, offering both great flavors and value for the price. I’ll definitely keep coming back to explore more dishes and enjoy the welcoming ambiance of this food court.

I know this place! The curry rice is really nice. Peak hours to get seats at this place is really tough.

I love tonkatsu so much and this tonkatsu curry looks super yummy, in Italy we rarely find curry dishes unfortunately. 😭
