A bountiful dinner experience: Yong Tau Fu, Chocolate Truffle cake, and Piah!

I think it's the holiday vibe that made me eat this much during my dinner. This is probably one of the best meals that I had that is around S$15 πŸ˜‡. It's not cheap but it wasn't very expensive as well. There's a good balance between nutrition, calories, and affordability too. I think I could only get this kind of deal at Springleaf because of the two food places that I know... Beng Cheng Restaurant & Hans-Union Restaurant.

Chocolate Truffle cake from Hans-Union

Both of these places are within a minute's walk from the Springleaf MRT station. They differ on the type of food that they serve and of course, the price also varies.

Beng Cheng specializes in two types of dishes only, it's the Kway Chap and Yong Tau Foo. People will drive down to this spot just to eat a Hakka-style Yong Tau Foo because it's authentic.

While Hans-Union is a place that serves a long line of items on its menu, from local food to Western food as well. It's a bit on the pricey side of the range. But the ones that I'm interested in are the desserts and pastries 😍.

Without any doubt, I immediately ordered the Ampang Yong Tau Foo as soon as I stepped into the restaurant. The interior is a typical bare open space with very basic-looking tables and chairs. People flock here because of the handmade or homemade ingredients for the dish. The sauce is very tasty as well.

This specific recipe has a variety of ingredients which includes 3 different types of tofu, water spinach, okra, fish ball, fish cake, eggplant, and yummy sauce. It's the sauce that binds all these ingredients together. Without the sauce, it will only be a bunch of deep-fried and boiled ingredients.

After finishing this meal, I went straight to Hans-Union to get my dessert.

There are plenty of choices that put me in a difficult position of choosing between a slice of Tiramisu, American Cheesecake, or the Chocolate Truffle cake. I decided to go for the chocolate cake because of its nice design.

The place has a good ambiance and it's also fully air-conditioned which is probably why the food costs are higher as well.

After seeing their display shelf full of Piahs, I was enticed to buy two pieces. The first one was filled with Lotus paste while the other piece was filled with Yam. Both are equally good but my favorite is the Yam Piah because of the aroma and richness of this flavor.
