Good morning, good afternoon and good evening gamers,

A couple of weeks ago, I shared my dream project of playing all my childhood games (and then some) on a variety of gaming consoles with you.

I was not lazing around since then, but I had to go through all games, I had previous knowledge of and wanted them to test out to be able to compile an interesting list of games for you. I then had to scrap many, many games off the list, because it got way too long. Even now, my heart bleeds for all the games, I may play in private, but that didn't make the list. I even contemplated adding a few compilation posts at the end of the top100 list with all games, that didn’t make the cut.

And to be honest, I am not that tech-savvy. Quite the opposite, one could say.
I’m a technical boomer in the body of a Gen-X’er with the emotional maturity of a Zoomer and the life-skills of a Millennial ^^.

As I said in the intro article, I wanted to begin with the Game Boy list, as this hand held was my first console as a kid, even if the NES was first on the market and all the arcade games and even Atari and C64 were available before the Game Boy (I actually forgot about my C64 and Atari in my list of consoles, but these games are probably too old to garner any interest even in a gaming community.)

The intend was to put out at least one article a week and after my preparations in the background I am confident to meet this number in the future.

But let’s have a look at the games, I eventually chose (after playing way too long for just browsing and testing out ^^) to be on my personal Top 100 list.
This has nothing to do with the actual quality of the game. There are numerous games I didn’t bother to play, because the genre is not my cup of tea or I didn’t even hear about it as a kid.

You may disagree with a few choices and I am eager to hear your comments about my selection.

I will play the listed games in the order, I publish them today, but that has nothing to do with my ranking at the end of this project. As I decided on a hundred games, I chose them randomly to put them in the list.
I didn’t want to play all my favorite games in the beginning just to have a creative dry spell afterwards.

Whilst playing and testing all those old gems, I remembered that some games were pretty easy and straight forward, whereas other games were quite difficult to master and finish.
There will be walkthroughs of games, I will easily beat and there will be articles and acompanying videos, where I will miserably fail, but I hope, you’ll enjoy the journey nevertheless.

But now, let’s have a look at the complete list together.

Straight out of the gate, the first ten games contain all-time-classics.
Alleyway was one of my first games and it was also one of the toughest to play through. After a couple of relatively easy levels, it gets pretty tough and you loose a lot of lives, if you slack off. You have to be on top of your game to finish it.

Gargoyle's Quest is such a great atmospheric Adventure game with its iconic music and I don't have to introduce Tetris to anybody. Easy to learn, but tough to master, especially when you get older and your reflexes weaken.

I have played F-1 Race with my mates in the third grade many times. It was the first game, you could play in multiplayer mode. The game came with a module, where you could plugin four Game Boys and race against three other players. We had a blast between classes (and sometimes during :o) ) From Duck Tales, I can remember the jumping Stick from Scrooge McDuck (In Germany, he is called Dagobert Duck) and that it was a fantastic Jump `n` Run game.

And SolarStriker is another tough game I haven't mastered in the past.
Snoopy's Magic Show was one of the many games in that era, where you had to write down passwords for every level, you've beaten, so you could start there and not start from scratch.

Paperboy was one of the games, I played many times, but was so bad at it, I threw it across my room at least as often as I played it. I don't remember that much, only the scratches on the paperboy, when I hit another mailbox or was hit by another car, that came out of the blue.
This time around, I will beat the game and if it is the last thing I do on this earth 🙂.

The Fortress of Fear is another game I played furiously and it is regarded as one of the toughest ones on the Game Boy, but I was pretty good at it and beat it after a couple of weeks. Even as a teenager, I played it a couple of times every time, I dug up my old consoles and games. For me, this is a go-to-game every time, I get this specific nostalgic itch.

And we don't have to talk about THE game on the Game Boy. Super Mario Land is inextricably linked with the Game Boy and is such a fun game, that I am excited to play it again (and finish it again).

I was in love with Tennis on the Game Boy and this game could have had an impact on my decision to join my local club at age 11 and become a pretty good player in my youth. There were a few "cheat" shots, with which you could easily beat every game 6:0 6:0 even at the highest difficulty level.

The Castlevania Series is another staple for Nintendo and on the Game Boy but in this list of games (31 to 40) I am most excited about playing Final Fantasy Legend II. I played many Final Fantasy iterations but not the first ones. This will be a great experience for me.

Here we have two other iterations of Castlevania and one of my favorite Beat 'em ups Double Dragon II. Another great Platformer is the second part of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Donkey Kong Land 2 is another Classic I will immensely enjoy playing again.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was my fourth Zelda game and unfortunately my last. All the other fantastic (I read about them and even watched some of my buddies play the following Zelda games at times) versions came and went without me playing them for different reasons. But in due time, I will rectify this neglection.
After playing the first two (golden) versions on the NES and A link to the past on the SNES, this game came pretty late to me. In fact, it was my last ever Game Boy game. I will have a lot of fun reminiscing playing Zelda 4 (for me it is Zelda 4 :o) ).

Motocross Maniacs is one of those games, you can play so many times, but the mechanics are so tricky, that you feel like a rookie and will make rookie mistakes. At least, that is, what I remember about MM and the many crashes, I had with the motorbike. It could be a reason, why I never understood the appeal of motorbikes.

Super Mario Land 2 is another one, I truly enjoyed many times in my childhood and teen years as well as the second part of Bubble Bobble, another perfectly built platformer.

And as a role-playing fiend, I have plenty to consume with Final Fantasy Legend III, Knight Quest and Pokemon: Red Version

Nintendo World Cup 90 was a game, I got with the NES (three games on one cartridge), but I owned and beat it already on the Game Boy. Although I played it on the NES too, I enjoyed the Game Boy version more.

Donkey Kong was one of the early games, which I played in arcade halls and on the computer (no idea, which one. These old things, where you had to put in cryptic messages in DOS) of my uncle's. The early graphics were so basic but it was a great experience.

Contra or Operation C was one of those games, I was introduced to, when we had modules for US-versions from a friend of mine. Those were the days, when you had to wait, until someone bought a US-version from a second-hand-shop or visited America.

In this list, there are not one, but two Wrestling games I enjoyed. As I have to be ready for the new Hive game WOO from our friends @wrestorgonline I will play WWF Superstars 1 and 2 extensively. And to quote the great Hulk Hogan:
"Let me tell you something, brother: It will be epic!"

The last ten games include gems like the puzzle game Qix and one of my favorite Action role-playing games Final Fantasy Adventure (Mystic Quest in Europe) as well as an arcade classic also released on the Game Boy, Space Invaders.

I only played Paperboy 2 on the NES, but I want to beat both iterations on the Game Boy to finally lay to rest my childhood drama that was "Paperboy" :o).

I’d really appreciate your input here. Do you think, I forgot a classic or an interesting game, you want me to cover, leave a comment and I try to implement it in the compilation posts or the bonus posts at the end of the project. I’m curious if I have a pretty normal taste in games, of if I’m an outlier with obscure favorites.

I've adopted the genre descriptions for each game from Wikipedia.org for consistency purposes, even if I would have chosen different genre names for some of the games (Alleyway for instance)
