Getting Sick Sucks, Man

Everybody's gone through it. A little viral illness that gets in the way of your day, whether it's working, a planned day off, or just any other unplanned time. Mine happened to be during my work - in the medical intensive care unit.

Funny enough, it's not the first time I've had to happen while working there. Every year, I seem to get sick while I work there. One year, it was actually with COVID, the next with a simple cold, and now... well, we'll see.

Time off from work is nice, especially given that I'm there 70-80 hours per week (plus travel). However, I still generally don't like calling out sick for a few reasons: another resident has to be called in to cover me, I'm supervising other residents and leading the team, plus I lose opportunity to learn something. When I work in the medical intensive care unit, I always learn something.

The only place that I actually seem to prefer to get sick (as in, if I'm going to get sick anyway, it may as well be here) is when working on the general medical floors. Those floors are torture, man. My brain literally degrades when I'm there. In fact, come to think of it, I sort of prefer my current sick state to working there...

Anyway, I've called out for my sick day tonight. A bit of time to recover my health is not a bad thing. At least I'm calling out for a legitimate reason: I didn't even have the strength to do procedures on critically ill patients. Even if I can't justify improving my own health, at least I won't feel guilty for calling out for the purpose of not jeopardizing patient safety.

I'll definitely get better soon, I'm a relatively healthy young buck. It's a minor inconvenience and frankly not even worth complaining about. Just wanted to send these few silly words out into the world today because I felt like blogging lol.
