Not a garden!

First of all this is not my garden. Actually this isn't anybody's garden. And to be more accurate this isn't a garden at all!

Why then am I using the #gardenjournal tag and I am posting in the HiveGarden community?

Well, I didn't want to ignore @riverflows that was kind enough to remind me the Garden Journal Challenge for February and I also wanted to take the opportunity and send my new month wishes to the community with a few pictures :)

The shooting took place in the center of Athens, very far away from my farm and any kind of garden but I didn't let that little technicality stop me!

IMG_1326.jpg

And despite the roar of the traffic and the constant flow of people, a flower bed was enough to put me (and my camera) into a different mode!

I am not a big fan of the municipality's gardening services, (as a matter of fact I think that they are doing a lousy job) but when you are looking for something beautiful, nature related to shoot, the flowers on the sidewalk will do the job :)

In one of my previous post about Athens I got some surprised comments about the existence of fruit trees in the streets and public places of Greek cities. The truth is that the vast majority of those trees, are bitter orange which are not edible but they still smell wonderful when they are blooming and give a nice "garden" vibe to the streets.

There is even a Greek film by the name "The fruit trees of Athens" (Τα οπωροφόρα της Αθήνας) that uses this Greek paradox as an excuse for a fiction movie.

Below you can see the trailer and the whole movie but I am afraid that you won't understand much if you don't speak Greek :)

Since I made it clear from the very beginning that this is not a proper garden post, I think I can take the liberty to continue with more unrelated pictures :)

Trees and buildings in a harmonious (?) or abnormal (?) coexistence, you can tell me your opinion on that but nevertheless a nice subject for photography, especially with the contribution of the deep blue Athenian sky and a glorious sunshine :)

I didn't even resist to the temptation for some clearly, street photography but isn't it a beautiful snapshot that one with the statue of an ancient Greek runner and the modern Greeks in the background rushing to reach the metro station , or the other one with the lonely red umbrella?

Last note. I want this to be considered as an out of competition entry. I am not here for the price, just to tell you:

HAPPY NEW MONTH!!!

Haha you're funny. It could have ALMOST been a garden post if it didn't have a statue and a pigeon... Although I heard a pigeon the other day and thought of my Nana who had an amazing garden!!!

Happy new month! Thanks for not ignoring me 🤣

Sadly, yes, I'm just daydreaming about being there now! Hope you and @traisto doing well. ON track for coming out next year, we'll be using that red van we built with any luck!

Well that definitely is different to your style of post but I would classify it rather aptly as city gardens

It's probably good that those oranges aren't edible, else people would be snatching them up all day to snack on.

Lovely pictures!

Yes, edible fruits on the streets could be a problem in a society far from perfect!

Thanks a lot :)

Wonderful cyclamens. They grow in the forest in western Georgia, I always gave my mother for her birthday in early February when I was a kid. :)
