No turning back

I was sitting on my desk, editing pictures, when I felt it. It was vague but intense at the same time. I knew that I had to turn around but did I want to?

I tried to ignore it but it was impossible. I gathered my courage and gave a little push to my swivel chair. As it started to rotate, I saw it! Now there was no turning back!

Don't worry there wasn't a vicious monster or anything else remotely scary behind me, it was just a look. But those of you that have a dog, you probably know that specific look. The one that a dog has when he is sure that it is time for his walk and you have forgotten it :)

Trying to convince him that it is still early and that it is getting dark only because winter is coming and the days are getting shorter, is a waste of time. I called @traisto to bring the leash, I took my camera and the three of us started a night stroll in the town!

This time we didn't go to the touristic old town with the stone built beautiful houses and the neat pedestrian streets. I have shown you that part more than once. Instead we headed towards a neighbourhood that is not as old as the historical centre but is is definitely not new either!

Pronia was built as a refugee settlement, an initiative of the first governor of modern Greece, around 1830. Of course it has changed a lot, during the last 200 years but it is still a very special neighbourhood. The narrow streets, the very small building plots and the old houses that still stand among the new ones, are composing an amazing puzzle of different eras.

Those characteristics, as well as its proximity to the historical centre, are transforming it from a working class neighbourhood to a tourist destination, with many houses to be transformed to guest houses and the redevelopment of the area.

The first signs of gentrification are already visible, especially if you try to rent (or buy) a house around here, like we (unsuccessfully) did! But on the other hand more tourists means, more restaurants, more stores and more facilities for the locals too, at least those that haven't moved away.

It feels so good traveling to historical places like this. I wonder how that refugee place looked back then in the 1800s and I see it now still so beautiful. Have a happy Wednesday walk my friend!

Luckily it was just a strange sensation, and it happens to me very frequently dear friend @fotostef
What a beautiful town, I love its buildings and the cobblestone streets. I really like these half-light shots, beautiful shots, I appreciate that you shared with us

As always such fantastic photos an awesome night walk, thanks to your dog for giving you that look LOL

I love walking as you probably know and have thought a dog would be great to have but then in winter I dont get out so much feeling the cold more as I get older and if I had a dog I would feel the need to take it for good long walks each day even in the depth of winter which may not be so good for me

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)

You are right. The dog is a good motivation and a nice company for walks but it is also an obligation that sometimes is hard to fulfil.

I am glad you liked the pictures, thanks :)
