Light years away
I am in Athens, since last night and the first walk in the city that I grew up and lived for a huge part of my life, had to be with a camera on my hand :)
Not only because I haven't been here for while and I kind of missed it but also because I am walking in one of its most beautiful and historic parts!
Thissio - Monastiraki - Agora is one of my favorite routes in Athens and the day was just brilliant for taking pictures!
Join me in the heart of Athens :)
Right after the metro station in Thissio, I took Adrianou street which is one road above the famous flee market of Monastiraki. I have written a post about that market in the past but today I preferred the sunny pedestrian of Adrianou with the wonderful view on archeological sites and the Acropolis of Athens itself (another major historical gem of the city that I have told you about, in another post).
Anyway been so close to the flee market means many random street vendors selling all kinds of used stuff, like that Lubitel Russian camera, above!
Next stop is Monastiraki square. More vendors, more people more ancient history! This is a noisy, vibrant part of the city that I like a lot. In just one neighborhood you can grasp all the aspects of the city. From the ancient glory, that goes thousands of years back, to the violent modernizing of the seventies and the kitsch business opportunities that flourished with the coming of tourism.
It is interesting in a surreal way how the place around ancient Agora (meaning market in Greek), has become a vivid market in our days. Of course the ancient concept of a market is light years away from the contemporary consumerism but still, even as a namesake, I find it charmingly ironic :)
The camera that I used is a Canon EOS 850D with an EF-S 18-135mm lens attached. I edited the photographs in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic
Thank you for reading and if you want to know more about me you can check out my introduction post.

This is a city that I would love to visit, a beautiful place full of history
Thank you very much for letting us know about these beautiful places. I love the architecture of the buildings and their narrow streets.
Beautiful photographs, excellent shots
Enjoy a beautiful afternoon dear friend @fotostef
Thank you very much @jlufer :)
Athens is for sure a city with countless attractions and huge history!
My wife and I have always been attracted to this beautiful city, it is on our wish list. We hope to visit you
Have a beautiful afternoon
Lubitel Russian camera is a legend! In those years, when buying photographic equipment was a difficult task, it was this camera that helped to get pictures of good enough quality.
Yes, I know! Russian cameras were popular in Greece too when I was studying and we were searching for a cheap reliable camera :)
This was so much fun to read through. I'll be making my first visit in a few months.
Thanks :)
I hope you'll have a great time visiting Athens!
What a beautiful Athens. It must have been very interesting growing up in that city. I imagine that every step is like walking in the footsteps of human history.
Very nice captures, thanks for showing us your city.
Thank you, I am glad you like it! I loved growing up there even if I wasn't especially interested in history as a child :)
It's a beautiful city, it must have been wonderful growing up in a city like that. Thank you for the walk.
I am glad you like it!
It was great growing up there indeed :)
I must remember my trainers, just in case we do make it to greece (I'm sure @traisto told you I messaged) - I have a new pair int he Landie but it won't get there til mid MARCH now - sob.Your photos always make me want to go to Greece even more. IT does seem chilly at the moment but I don't mind that - better for walking. And you do seem to have a lot of blue skies!
Yes, she told me. What a disappointment to be delayed for so long! We had thought of many alternatives if you were coming but they all included your amazing Landie!
Sorry we haven't answered you yet but we are rushing from one appointment to the other. So many things that we want to do and be back home by Sunday!
But we'll talk soon!
Absolutely no.hurry at all. We are the same before flying on Wednesday!
Oh... The scenery in this city is really beautiful, as well as the architecture of this building is so cool, you managed to do some nice shots, thank you brother I for telling us, have a nice day.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it!
Thank you for taking us to Athens! I find the arrangement of the ancient among the modern particularly beautiful, it's a kind of conversation with time.
You'll have more postcards for your collection or ongoing project, I guess.
Many pictures indeed! I am going to need a curator very soon as I find it so hard to choose the right ones :)
Thank you for stopping by, I am glad you enjoyed the virtual walk!
It is difficult, I know. Wait a few days and look at them again. And little by little, you'll pick some of them out.
;)
Adrianou is one of my most favourite streets in the city - with wonderful views and with the best ice cream. 😊 Your post just made me go and search for flight tickets again. Thank you! 😀
Did you booked your tickets, or what?
Και τι έγινε με τα Ελληνικά σου; Πως θα έρθεις αν δεν κάνεις εξάσκηση; 😊
