Climbing and taking pictures
Have you ever lived in a place with almond trees?
Not a plantation but scattered trees growing voluntarily, here and there, among other indigenous trees. That was the case with my previous residence and I just loved to visit my favorite ones when they were blooming and photograph them relentlessly :)
It is something that makes me happy and when I moved I figured that it was a pleasure that I had to be deprived of. I accepted it half-hearted but I didn't like it, not at all!
Now the thing with almond trees among other vegetation, is that they tend to be kind of invisible during most of the year but they can be spotted from far away when they have bloomed. Imagine my excitement when I saw a few of them very close to my home!
The only problem was that I had to climb almost vertically to get to them but now that I have spotted them, that small technicality wasn't going to stop me :)
The almond trees in question are on that steep hillside under the castle. On the bottom half of the hill but still in a quite rugged place! It is hard to see them in the picture above but take my word for it, they are there and I have payed my respects to their beauty from up close :)
Before I continue with the "how" I got there, let me show you a few pictures that I took when I actually did. I can't wait any longer :)
Aren't they beauties or is it just me getting overexcited?
Consider that those trees are totally untended, growing on a steep and unfriendly environment. And yet when the time comes they unfold all their beauty lavishly!
But I haven't told you yet how I got up there.
The first one that I saw was very close to the main road but absolutely off limits. Do you see it in the picture above? Maybe now you understand a little better what I mean when I say unfriendly environment :)
The second one (pic below) was even closer to the road but it had already finished the blooming period and it had only green leaves. Actually it was that tree that got me thinking a couple of weeks ago, that maybe there are a few almond trees around here after all and I should keep my eyes open.
Fortunately I did :)
Climbing on a steep hill is not something that would scare me. Especially not after nine years tending olive groves in a similar terrain! And when I reached the first almond tree, I had both the pleasure of a wonderful blooming and a lovely view over the old town!
It was lovely up there but it wasn't enough. I wanted more and I could already see some more trees blooming uphill.
I had also realised that I was very close to the stairs that lead to the castle so even though I didn't use them on my way up, I could have an easy descent whenever I decided that I had enough of rough terrain for the day!
So I kept climbing and taking pictures!
I had missed the rough terrain too! It is nice once in a while to climb on a steep hill feeling that you are conquering it, one step after another. As long as you don't have to do it every day, as I had to in my past daily routine :)
Nevertheless for my way down I chose the easy way. I took the staircase filled with beautiful images and feelings. And for one more year with plenty new pictures of my favourite blooming tree :)
Have a lovely weekend ahead!
The camera that I used is a Canon EOS 850D with an EF-S 18-135mm lens attached. I edited the photographs in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic

Great photos, beautiful places, good shooting!
Thanks a lot, I am glad you liked them all :)
Great places to move there to live))
Indeed :)
Thank you for stopping by!
The flowers are so beautiful with its slight pinkish colour. The greeneries around make it even more beautiful.
Thank you very much @shamis :)
I am glad you liked them!

What a beautiful walk! 💙 Where is this? Doesn't look "unfriendly" at all, haha - even with the steep, craggy climb! The steps up to the castle provide a stunning vantage point with a view over the city to the ocean. What a rewarding search for almond trees. 🌸 But I'm intrigued about your nine years spent tending olive groves...!
This Nafplio in Greece. I am sorry I didn't mentioned it in the post but I write almost daily about the same places and I try not to repeat myself :)
I am also an organic olive oil producer but in a different part of Greece, at the island of Crete. If you stick around you'll probably see some posts about it in May/June and November/December!
I have a link to my introduction and the end of each post so if you feel like knowing more, feel free to follow the link :)

These are beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing your climb in the area! I live in a tropical country, while I do drive up the mountains and hills of my hometown from time to time, there's a stark contrast between these pastoral views and my coconut-laiden ones.
It's beautiful to see other people's places and how they connect to them. Much love and keep hiking!
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my post @janwrites :)
I am glad you enjoyed what you saw! I would love to visit your part of the world sometime. Philippines look very interesting to me, so different from Greece. But that's how we are, always craving for something new!
I see you are only a couple of months "old" here, so welcome to hive :)
Thank you, sending good vibes and !love from summertime Philippines your way

Beautiful! The image #2 from below has the strongest vibes imo, and that image with the opuntia cactus that shows how daring the almond tree is when it comes to choosing the place to grow.
Waiting for a story about opuntia blooming. 🙂 That guest from the Americas grows in the wild almost everywhere: for example, in Georgia (country) and, for example, in Thailand. The surprise is that nobody purposely spread this plant, it did it by its own. Probably, birds spread it by eating its sweet fruits and pooping seeds everywhere... A guess.
Thank you @x-rain :)
Those cactuses are very tolerant and very easy to spread. If you throw a part of the plant on the ground, it would most probably root and make a new plant out of it. I have done it myself in the edge of my farm to make a fence with them and all the pieces rooted without any further care!
I don't think I would even recognize an almond tree if I saw one 😂 But that blossom is beautiful.. do they smell nice?
They are beautiful indeed :)
They have a very light but lovely scent. If you ever find yourself close to the Mediterranean during February, you should search for them!
Thank you for stopping by!
Good tip! I'm one of those clever people who go to warm countries when it's hot in their own countries, so it's from hot to even hotter 😂
February sounds like a great idea!
This is my first view of an almond tree. Thank you for the experience. It is indeed vwry beautiful. I might have seen those flowers in pics but nevwr knew it was of an almond tree. I might have mistaken it for something cloaer to a cherey blossom. Again not seen the real thing. I completely support your excitement in this matter :)
Thank you very much!
They look like a cherry blossom indeed, someone can easily mistaken them :)
What a great photoshoot :) thanks for sharing with us
