Business and pleasure

IMG_8440.jpg

I saw the sunrise from the deck of the ferry, a few minutes before I see the island of Crete coming closer and closer, as the ship was traveling on the peaceful sea. An hour later I was in Iraklio, the biggest town and capital of the island. I have never actually live in this town but I have visited it so many times that it is pretty familiar to me. Especially the port, the historic centre and everything in between.

Nevertheless walking around is always pleasant, not to mention that I had a couple of meetings in the area. The perfect opportunity to mix business with pleasure and on top of that take a few pictures to share with all of you :)

But not before a very important detour, to my favourite stall that sells local bananas!

After eating a couple of them (they are small but delicious) I started roaming the roads that I know so well. Iraklio may be the biggest town of Crete but it is hardly a city. I prefer to call it a town and that's exactly how it feels!

The Morozini Fountain is one of the most photographed landmarks but unfortunately it was dry today. Usually the lions mouths are spilling the water that makes it a fountain and not a few statues attached together!

But there is no shortage in impressive buildings around here. How else could it be in a city that exists from antiquity and has been ruled over the centuries by Arabs, Byzantines, Venetians and Ottomans?

And they all left something behind!

And now we have tourists from all over the world coming to see the results of all those centuries of turbulent history.

And of course enjoy the abundant Mediterranean sun :)

Nice little bananas! When I was in Crete I saw that mangoes also grow there, but I didn't try either of them, I wanted to eat fruits that are usually not available in Venezuela or are expensive hehe. Nice shots of Iraklio, it was the city where I spent the least time, but I thought it was very nice 😊

Too bad you haven't tried them. I think that they are the most delicious bananas in the world and I wanted to ask your opinion. Now I'll have to wait till the next time you visit :)

Thanks!

Looks like a really nice place, and clean too if I may add. And it is a little crowded too, some people here must be a tourist no? And I also noticed, some buildings has the same colors, which makes the place more uniform and neat.
