A day of work
I had a couple of hours before my next appointment and I decided to spend them on the beach. I took a hat, some sunscreen and a bottle of water and I was ready to go!
Oh, I almost forgot, my camera bag too. Despite what you might think, those two hours by the sea aren't going to be fun, not at all. This is not a day of vacation, it is a day of work.
I am diving for one more time, not in the sea but in my memories. In the time that I was a photographer for a travel magazine, a job that offered me the opportunity to see many of the beauties of Greece but rarely enjoy them :)
I began my route from Naxos, the capital of the island with the same name, heading south. Some of the finest beaches of the Aegean sea are there and I was eager to see and capture them!
Agia Anna
My first stop was at Agia Anna, very close to the town, very busy but still beautiful. It was July after all, as it is now and I wasn't expecting to find any secluded beach with no people around. But it is still early, let's move further to the south!
Maragas
This one is a very long and diverse beach. There is a place for everyone here. Either you want sun-beds and water-sports or loneliness and rocky scenery, you'll easily find your spot!
Mikri Vigla
If you are into kite surf, you'll definitely find your tribe here. Mikri Vigla is a well known meeting point for surfers and it is almost impossible to not find a bunch of them struggling with the waves.
But even if you don't feel very adventurous, there is a second part on the beach ideal for sunbathing and relaxing by the sea!
Aliko
We are now more than 17 kilometres (10 miles) from the town and things are getting more tranquil. The golden sand and the inviting turquoise waters are always there but there are less people and more desire to leave my camera aside and jump in the water :)
But I have to go on!
Pirgaki
I can't imagine this place crowded. Pirgaki is huge and well protected from the north winds. It looks ideal for swimming for hours!
As you can see from the pictures, I didn't have the courage to go any closer. It was already noon, it was getting very hot and walking all the way to the sea and back just for a couple more shots seemed totally crazy!
Agiassos
That's my last stop for this little journey. Agiassos is 25 kilometres (15 miles) from the capital and although I can't call it secluded it is very close to it!
The only thing left is to decide if I am going to be on time to my appointment to take photographs of a hotel in a while or jump in the sea and get myself fired :)

Wow those beaches are all so beautiful. One day I will make it to Greece.
Hope the appointment went well xxxx
Haha yes, the appointment went well and I still haven't return there for the swim I owe to myself :)
Greece has many wonderful places to visit, I hope you'll get the chance to see them by yourself! And maybe even meet in person!
But I have to admit that every year that passes, I find it harder and harder to recommend my country for vacations, too many things go wrong and my fellow citizens keep disappointing me :(
Cheers!
I like that work-set up!!
...weather you able to really enjoy or not, I guess I would still choose this over any office or indoor workplace:))
Yes, it is definitely more interesting than an office workplace and I don't regret it at all but I don't think I could still get through such a pressing schedule any more! It was great for as long it lasted though :)
Well yes I guess being stressed is never a good feeling for too long, whether that is in the office or on the beach...
Indeed!
And we are not getting any younger :)
Wow! What a wonderful place. The color of the sand and the water along with your wonderful captures make the whole tour very pleasant. I felt the same desire as you to jump into the water and swim for hours, I don't think I could have resisted 😅
Thanks for sharing so much beauty 🙌
It wasn't easy to resist myself but I had to :)
Thank you very much for stopping by, I am glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Stefanos. It was so fun to see your day at work. Great shots. You did a great job getting the action shots, especially the people walking into the frame and the kite surfers, I felt the movement.
Thank you Sara, I am glad you like them! I don't take action or people pictures very often but I like it when everything falls into place for a nice picture :)
Such lovely places and photos. That one of the people walking - somehow it seems as though they are trapped there forever walking. Who knows where those people are off to now, but somehow they seem to be forever in that moment, and that might not be a bad thing for them :)
What an intriguing thought!
Of course photography does exactly that but I wouldn't wish to anyone to be trapped forever in one place, even if it is such a lovely one :)
This is beautiful, what a privilege you have to work in areas like this, on such beautiful beaches, great job
It was a great job in many ways indeed but it was also very demanding and extremely tiring, many photographers came and quit in the first month while I was working there and myself I know that I couldn't keep up for many more years.
But I have a lot of memories and a lot of pictures to share :)
Thank you for stopping by!
I totally understand you, a couple of years ago I covered one of the most important national events in Venezuela for a week, it was a cycling event called "la vuelta al tachira", and it was extremely exhausting, but the experience that I was able to document was totally worth it.
I’m very much looking forward to some beaches. We’ll be living by one for two weeks this weekend as we’re flying to sizzling hot Cyprus. Cameras at the ready!
That's great, I hope you'll have a wonderful time in Cyprus!
