planting cassava trees
Food will always be needed, considering that it is related to basic needs and human health. One type of food crop that has long been known and cultivated by farmers throughout the archipelago is cassava. The potential economic and social value of cassava is a future food ingredient that is sangkil (effective), raw material for various industries and animal feed.
The role of cassava is as a buffer source of carbohydrates for most people in rural areas. This is because cassava is a strategic commodity for food security in rural areas and also because it is easy to grow cassava, which is partly because there is no need for special care to plant cassava and until now there have been few recorded attacks of very detrimental pests and diseases. This contradiction to added value means that cassava is not used as the main crop but rather as a second crop or gap crop which is planted in the garden or in the yard. The cassava commodity is an important food crop commodity in Indonesia after rice, corn, soybeans, peanuts and green beans, namely as food, feed and industrial raw materials both upstream and downstream. Therefore, cassava cultivation is highly recommended because apart from being profitable, it can also support food diversification.
Production factors are factors that are absolutely necessary in the production process. Production factors consist of five components, namely: land, capital, labor, skills, and management. Each factor of production has a different function and is interrelated with each other. If one of the production factors is not available, then production will not run.
According to research results, cassava farming carried out by farmers is still not optimal, namely: the use of cassava seeds of inappropriate ages, the use of cassava planting distances, farmers only rely on rain for watering, they do not prevent pests and plant diseases due to lack of Farmers' knowledge about cassava cultivation which has an impact on low cassava yields. This is because the farming carried out by cassava farmers is still based on the farmers' experience. Farming activities that are in accordance with cassava literature have not yet been implemented.
Cassava is a type of plant that can grow anywhere. Especially in tropical areas with full sunlight all year round like in Indonesia, cassava plants are definitely profitable. In areas where it is no longer suitable for planting rice and soybeans, cassava can still grow and produce. These are the advantages obtained from cassava plants.
