Warsztaty towarzyszące wystawie "Utracone"/ Art workshops "Looted"

Last Wednesday I had an amazing opportunity to attend painting workshops held by The Prezent Collective. The event was bounded by an exhibition "Looted" - a visual performance of blocks of films showing the process of 56 paintings alla prima and then removing it. The International Collective is showing a project on Poland's lost art due to World War Two consequences - stealing, destroying and disappearing. The series is inspired not only by the painting itself but also by its history, including the process of its disappearance and rediscovery in collective memory. The work weaves a narrative of creation and destruction showing lost images, only to tarnish them again, paving the way for the following process, which is also a metaphor for the cyclical nature of life.
The Collective is created by four paintresses that met in Florence 25 years ago while studying art: Dorota Mytych, Jessica Houston, Marcia Teusink and Tracy Grubbs. In 2020 they decided to work on an international project and begin the Prezent Collective and their recent work.
This project is a not only inspiring show but also portrays the painting as something renewable, recallable, and ephemeral at the same time.
The exhibition takes place at Galeria Podbrzezie in Cracow and it lasts only until the end of May. The entry is free.

W minioną środę miałam niesamowitą okazję uczestniczyć w warsztatach malarskich organizowanych przez Kolektyw Prezent. Wydarzeniu towarzyszyła wystawa "Utracone" - wizualny performance bloków filmowych pokazujących proces powstawania 56 obrazów alla prima, a następnie usuwania ich. Międzynarodowy kolektyw prezentuje projekt poświęcony polskiej sztuce utraconej w wyniku konsekwencji II wojny światowej - kradzieży, niszczenia i znikania. Seria inspirowana jest nie tylko samym obrazem, ale także jego historią, w tym procesem jego znikania i ponownego odkrywania w pamięci zbiorowej.
Kolektyw tworzą cztery malarki, które poznały się we Florencji 25 lat temu podczas studiów artystycznych: Dorota Mytych, Jessica Houston, Marcia Teusink i Tracy Grubbs. W 2020 roku postanowiły pracować nad międzynarodowym projektem i rozpocząć działalność Kolektywu Prezent i ich ostatnich prac.
Projekt ten, jest nie tylko fantastycznym przedsięwzięciem, ale także ukazuje malarstwo jako coś odnawialnego, przywracającego pamięć, a zarazem ulotnego.
Wystawa odbywa się w Galerii Podbrzezie w Krakowie i potrwa tylko do końca maja. Wejście za darmo.

Table of my friends - we learnt how to do a grey scale, an important step to plan the blocks of colour

Painting workshops lasted about an hour and a half - during that time we prepared our greyscale, made a sketch and were wonderfully instructed on what to do. I must admit that the guidance of the artists was the best I could imagine. I learned much more than at the academy for a month.
