My family's Christmas traditions. Hn#78

Seasons greetings to you all!

Growing up, I witnessed our family's Christmas traditions in so many ways. The first and foremost is the family gathering. We all come from different locations to celebrate the season at the family house. Even those who are married still make it a point to join us. We spend three days at most in the family house. No one wants to miss out on the festivities. We love to at home!

Secondly, we have the prayer section, by 5am, where we all gather for the morning devotion, singing, and dancing before diving into the full prayer session. If my mom leads the prayer, you'd best call for backup ASAP because she tends to go on for quite longer than anyone else. We used to call her Mom for Christ🤣 Afterward, a word of advice follows, and that's when you truly understand that Jesus is Lord! It takes too long🤣

Thirdly, we organized a get-together introduction and family lecture; my Grandfather started this when he was alive, and ever since, it has been adopted by the children. Everyone reintroduces themselves and welcomes the newborns among us. The lectures are always about unity and how we should build ourselves in love and unity. Every year, there must be a lecture on unity. There are gifts packaged for a day like this too.

Next is our planned meal timetable; the dishes served are so special that you’ll wish the celebrations would never end. The most amazing thing about the food is eating together at a round table. So fun! Here’s what the menu table looks like:
Meal plan for three days👇

  • Christmas Eve: Ebiripo made with cocoyam and Egusi soup. This is a special food that's eaten once in a while. It could be party days, celebration times, or festive seasons. It is special!

  • Christmas morning before church: Pancakes and hot tea. This is made to our bellies before the main meal and that's after church service.

  • Christmas day after church service: Jollof rice and fried rice with chicken and a chilled drink. It was our festive day and we got to eat a lot

  • Christmas evening: Amala, gbegiri(soup made with beans), ewedu(Jute leaves), and assorted meat. It is a special delicacy 😋

  • The next morning: Ifokore, a local delicacy. This is made with water yam. It is also special!

  • Afternoon: Ewa agonyin and Dodo. Have you tasted a well-cooked ewa agonyin before? A trial will convince you👌

  • Evening: Waterleaf soup with semolina or Rice, stew with fresh fish.

  • On the final morning, before everyone travels back, we enjoy beancake and pap. So yummy!

Amidst all this, we keep our mouths busy with waffles, cakes, chin chin, and other delectable treats.

Lastly, we engage in games and varieties. We organize gaming, dancing, and miming competitions among ourselves, especially for the younger ones. We share stories and laughter, making the experience truly fun and beautiful!

I wish to start doing this when the time comes👌

Thank you for checking on my blog on the topic; Christmas Day traditions: There are stories of people or families who have Christmas Day traditions. It could be eating a particular food first on that day or doing something considered special or a ritual. .
