My Complicated Relationship with Sweet things

What are we going to do when all our food consumption contains SUGAR? The likes of Rice, Cassava flakes, Yam, and others contain sugar which has become our daily food, what do we do when the only food we have at home now is rice or cassava flakes🤷🤷🤷
Sugar is bad! Sugar is bad! Are we still balancing our diet these days?

I have a confession to make: I have a sweet tooth that's hard to ignore. Despite knowing the negative effects of excessive sugar consumption, I find it challenging to resist sugary treats. My taste buds and sugar are like old friends, we are inseparable. We've shared countless memories, from childhood birthday cakes to late-night ice cream binges. However, I'm aware that this friendship is toxic, and I need to make a change.

There was a time in my life when I needed flesh on my body because I was extra slim and people used my stature to judge me back then, so I decided to go for extra sweet things that could give me the flesh I needed. I opted for cakes, ice cream, yogurts, Malt, evaporated milk, noodles and eggs, soft drinks, and a very thick tea with condensed milk. Taking all these became my daily food.

Did it affect my body positively? No. I was still normal till now when I started seeing the results of what I had planted in those days. Even though I had and still have no health issues relating to my sugar conception, excessive sugary things build up fat and it's bad for one's health.

How do I fight my sugar intake level?

Okay now, I'm trying to fight my sugar intake level now that I'm not getting any younger, I'm actually taking a gradual approach towards achieving that. I'm giving my taste buds time to adjust to less sweet flavors. My trials are👇

  • Gradually reducing my sugar consumption by avoiding certain drinks and food.
  • Staying away from soft drinks like Coke, Fanta, etc
  • Going for natural sweeteners like honey.
  • Finding healthy alternatives to satisfy my sweet cravings.
  • Reading labels and avoiding hidden sugars
  • Eating homemade to control the amount of sugar in my meals.

Why do I see it as a challenge?

I dislike bitter tastes. Replacing sugar with bitter alternatives is a struggle. I am seriously used to it. You need to see me taking pap or custard, the amount of sugar will make you shout🤣. Honestly, I need to find a balance between reducing my sugar intake and finding palatable substitutes. I'm exploring new flavors and ingredients to make this transition smoother. well, too much of everything is bad as they say🤔🤔

What do I take in place of sugar?
Pure honey.
Date syrup.

Will I drink it if has no sugar?

If a drink doesn't contain sugar, I'm unlikely to consume it. I know it's not the healthiest approach, but I'm working on it. My goal is to find a middle ground where I can enjoy my favorite treats in moderation while making healthier choices. I'm taking small steps towards a less sugary lifestyle, and I'm determined to find a way to make it work. I'll need to be patient and kind to myself as I navigate through this journey. NO SODA CHALLENGE

Note: Less sugar is also bad and very dangerous for one's health

Oh wow, the sugar struggle is real. My sweet tooth and I have been through thick and thin, too, and it feels like trying to end a relationship with someone who doesn't want to let go 😂 But finding a balance is important, so keep trying out those healthier alternatives.

In the end, the balancing our diet is the way out. Unfortunately, even those of us preaching it will later violate it🤣

Honestly speaking, the truth is we just need to minimize the way we take it👌

I do hope you find that balance, it will take a very intentional effort though. It can be really hard to turn away from sweet things sometimes, especially for someone like you that is naturally drawn to them.

We are so different here because I can do without sugar and it is something that I am used to now. Moderation is the key here for anyone struggling to stop taking sweet things.
