Harvests, Trimming, Copter, Pea Seeds, Last Early Potatoes, Creek, Bee Hive, Man Utd - Wednesday
Out to the garden early yesterday morning before it got too hot. I like the moderate amounts of squash I get each day and not the 40+ lbs a day from years prior. This is much more manageable.
There were a bunch of new shoots that I had to trim off the tomatoes and the cucumbers in the greenhouse. I need to tie the cucs this morning.
A pair of tomatoes and cucumbers were ready to go in the house.
I was out in the pole garden picking peas for seeds when this helicopter came flying over from west to east really slowly. It hovered in the air south of our property for a bit then continued moving slowly east.
Got a nice amount of seed peas that need to be shelled and dried to save for planting next year.
It was about noon when I headed down to the potato garden to dig the last row. I wasn't expecting as much as I got, 28.5 pounds. That makes 687 pounds dug from 507 spots which is 1.35lbs/spot and only half the total potatoes planted.
Early afternoon I went for a tromp down the creek and under the highway. I am quite happy with how much better the flow is now that the stump is out of the way.
The basins do have some small trout in them but none are very big.
The few pools give a good area for the fish with lots of shade but they get trapped by the lower waters.
It was nearing 5pm and I noticed the bees were all massed by the entrance and oodles were flying in and out of the hive. I got suited up then popped the lid to find they had the top box almost filled.
So I added another super with 3 flow frames in the middle to the top of the stack and put the hive back together. The ladies now have tons of extra space to spread out into and hopefully they will give me a frame for us.
Man Utd played Betis in San Diego and it looked like it was to be a standard Utd performance but by a miracle they managed to actually win. It's just a friendly but still.
Soaked for a bit but out to get the birds closed in at dark.
To be hot for a while so early work will be best the next days. I have my IFS early, have harvests to do, decide if I will plant more potatoes, really should mow and cut weeds one last time for the summer, and shell peas for seeds.

I’ve not been following with Man United’s match
The Olympics got me busy
It’s been going well
They are playing in the US for a bit so the matches are on at a wonky time.
It looks like you are full on harvest mode like I am. Every day is full on gardening and prepping now. 😁
I get a nice break now on the major harvest until October when the late potatoes will be dug. The rest of the garden is a lot more mellow now that I am not in selling mode.
