BABY YODA WOOD CARVED KEYCHAIN [ENG-ESP]

Hello dear friends, I hope you are well, I am here again in this wonderful Jewelry community to share with you something new, I have made a slightly more ambitious wood carved keychain, it is Baby Yoda, better known as Grogu, From the Star Wars series The Mandaolrian, I made this keychain as part of my new learning to sculpt faces. I have been watching some tutorials and putting into practice what I have learned, looking for ways to improve and advance in this fine art. I hope you like the step by step of how I achieved this result, let's get started!

Hola queridos amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, me encuentro nuevamente aquí en esta maravillosa comunidad Jewelry para compartir con ustedes algo nuevo, he realizado un llavero tallado en madera un poco más ambicioso, se trata de Baby Yoda, mejor conocido como Grogu, de la la serie de Star Wars El Mandaolriano, este llavero lo hice como parte de mi nuevo aprendizaje de esculpir rostros. He ido viendo algunos tutoriales y poniendo en práctica lo que he aprendido buscando la manera de mejorar y avanzar en este fino arte. Espero que les guste el paso a paso de como logré este resultado, comencemos!

PROCESS

I used a piece of wood that measures 7 centimeters wide by 3 centimeters high, I was finding out what this wood is called and its name is mahogany, a fine wood used to make tables, chairs and desks, I like to use it because it is very soft to work, apart from its beautiful reddish tone. I drew the figure of Grogu and then I began to shape the edges with the razor until most of it was removed. Here in this figure I will focus more on the face.

Utilicé un trozo de madera que mide 7 centímetros de ancho por 3 centímetros de alto, estuve averiguando como se llama esta madera y su nombre es caoba, una fina madera utilizada para hacer mesas, sillas y escritorios, me gusta usarla porque es muy suave para trabajar, a parte de su hermoso tono rojizo. Dibujé la figura de Grogu y luego comencé a moldear los bordes con la navaja hasta quitar la mayor parte, aquí en esta figura me ocuparé más del rostro.

Then in the second step I must specify more with the knife in order to make the contour of the face better, here it must be according to the outline of the drawing that way the figure will not run the risk of being deformed. It is always good to use a drawing to help you, when there is no certainty in a cut it is best to redraw the lines until you have a more accurate general perspective. Once the outline of the entire head is made, I make the demarcations for the rest of the face, such as the eyes mainly, then the nose, cheeks and mouth, of course I also shape his enormous ears.

Luego en el segundo paso debo especificar más con la navaja para así hacer mejor el contorno del rostro, aquí debe quedar segun el trazo del dibujo de esa manera la figura no correrá el riesgo de deformarse. Siempre e sbueno ayudarse del dibujo, cuando no haya seguirdad en un corte lo mejor es volver a dibujar las líneas hasta tener una perspectiva general már acertada. Una vez hecho el contorno de toda la cabeza hago las demarcaciones para el resto del rostro, como lo son los ojos principalmente, luego la nariz, las mejillas y la boca, por supuesto también le doy forma a sus enormes orejas.

I continue to shape the entire face with the smallest razor, this was very very difficult, even though the razor was small, there were very difficult parts to carve, but little by little I gave it shape. Not only did I use the razor, but I also sanded a little, combining both techniques and the face appeared as if by magic.

Sigo dándole forma a todo el rostro con la navaja más pequeña, esto fuemuy muy dificil, aunque la navaja fuera pequeña, había partes muy difíciles de tallar, pero poco a poco le fui dando forma. No solo utlizaba la navaja, sino que también lijaba un poco, combinando ambas técnicas fue como el rostro fue apareciendo como por arte de magia.

After sanding very well and leaving the surface very polished and smooth, I gave it two baths of varnish so that the wood would be well protected. After drying for an hour I began to paint with acrylic paint. It was very difficult for me to reach the tone of green color that Grogu has on his skin but after several mixtures I was able to make one that I was satisfied with. I painted the entire head little by little and after drying I applied two more layers of paint, finally I made a small one to place a wire to hold the chain to turn it into a real keychain.

Luego de lijar muy bien y dejar la superficie muy pulisa y lisa, le di dos baños de barniz para que la madera quedara bien protegida, después de secar por una hora comencé a pintar con pintura acrílica, fue muy dificil para mi llegar al tono de color verde que tiene Grogu en su piel pero luego de varias mezclas pude hacer una que me dejara conforme. Fuí pintando poco a poco toda la cabeza y después de secar apliqué dos capas más de pintura, por último hice un pequeño para colocar un alambre y así sujetar la cadena para convertirlo en un verdadero llavero.

FINAL WORK

How did you like the Baby Yoda figure? I think it turned out very cute, and apart from that I feel very comfortable comparing it with my previous works and seeing that I have made a lot of progress, I have learned new techniques and my drawing skills have helped me to move forward and be able to do things better. I think I'm ready for larger pieces, although I still lack very necessary tools and work materials to achieve better results. Qué tal les ha parecido la figura de Baby Yoda? pienso que quedó muy tierna, y a parte de eso me siento muy agusto de comporarlo con mis anteriores trabajos y ver que he avanzado bastante, he aprendido nuevas técnicas y me han servido mis habilidades de dibujante para así adelantar y poder hacer las cosas mejor. Creo que ya estoy listo para piezas más grandes, aunque aun me faltan herramientas que son muy necesarias y materiales de trabajo para lograr mejores resultados.
