Whirlwinds and windfalls

IMG_20221014_055919_330.jpg

It's been a whirlwind week and I'm only just catching up with myself. We had three evening social engagements including one on Thursday and which had Rambo seriously disapproving. I've been working 10 hour days, too...

This was Rambo waiting - not so patiently for bedtime: from his lookout point at the top of the stairs when we got in from a 50th birthday party. For me, it's a "school night" because Fridays start in the kitchen soon after 7am.

Yesterday, my feet were sore when I started my market prep because at the party, I was on them from 7pm and until we got home at 10h45. And I was not wearing entirely sensible shoes. And we danced...

Friday evening, we caught up with S & A again for a bite at the local. I have to admit that I was very glad not to have be on my feet for any longer than necessary, knowing that I'd be on them again today from 6am to at least 12 noon. And I was. Surprisingly for mid-month and a cold, windy day, it was a good market.

Windfalls from afar

As most of you know, I repurpose jars, so when S & A came through, they brought eight boxes of jars - theirs and mostly those that a longtime friend (as in from 40+ years ago...) collects them from colleagues at his office.

I have started to sort them and already I'm in jar heaven: there are lots and lots - like jelly tots - that are useable.

Yes, they need sorting and cleaning - labels and jars - and lids need spraying, but all that amounts to a considerable savings for both the planet and the cashflow.

To say that I'm thrilled, is an understatement. Clearly, it doesn't take much to make me happy!

Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:

  • re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
  • and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
I blog to the Hive blockchain using a number of decentralised appplications.
  • From Wordpress, I use the Exxp Wordpress plugin. If this rocks your socks, click here or on on the image below to sign up.

Such comforting blog you have. Even my mom likes to collect jars. Good to see you, I’m new here if you got some time check out my content as well. I would really appreciate that.

I can remember my mum collecting jars and using them to store homemade jam, pickled onions, beetroot and chutney. Some were also used for bits and bobs such as buttons and safety pins.

What do you do with the old jars? That's so amazing that you got so many - looks like a great haul!

(Edited)

I have yet another that I'm busy seducing with food so I can take him in to get the chop. Then he'll probably move in with us too

I've learned that resistance is futile. The visitors to my house, if caught and neutered, stop wandering and go home but the homeless remain and become desperate marauders until neutered and fed regularly. I managed to rehome one poor boy and the latest may either go home or become an elusive outside cat. It would be nice to have him stop spraying everywhere
