Hive Power Up Day - 1 September 2024

image.png

It's spring day in the Southern Hemisphere. During the week, and when we were plunged back into mid-winter, it occurred to me that this would also be an opportune date to act on my resolution to start writing (posts) again.

I know that it's a discipline and I also know that the more one does it, the easier it gets.

As most of you know, my life changed - unexpectedly and profoundly - starting in April and into June 2023. I continue to work hard on creating some sense of normality. I know that many who see me in RL think that things have gone back to normal. They haven't. Outward appearances can be misleading because things can never go - back to normal. Rather, they - and I - have to move forward.

Contrary

Yes, I am a little contrary and having just said that one can't go back, I am trying to go back to powering up once a month which I'd rather see as an initial step to a comeback...

So, with both a chunk of change - HBD and Hive - I have powered up:

Sliding into spring

Meteorologically, we have had a very cold winter and nothing confirms this more than nature. A year ago, the house was surrounded by a blooming jasmine and plum, with clivias brightening the tree bole. The jasmine is just beginning to flower, the clivia buds are still pale green and the plum tree's buds are, well, only just. Buds.

What, though, did make me feel a bit like spring - and a wee bit of summer - was yesterday's glorious weather and picking salad leaves from my garden to dream up a side dish to take to friends for dinner.

Roasted butternut and beetroot on a bed of couscous and salad leaves

After having paid the garden only the barest of attention over the last nearly two years, I'm beginning to get outside (of myself) and pay more attention.

Another baby big step.

Until next time

It's so good seeing you here again Fiona!

...things can never go - back to normal. Rather, they - and I - have to move forward.

I must remember this, that really is the only way.

As for the weather! I heard about the storm damage in Cape Town, the extreme cold and the snow. I complain when the temperature goes down to 13! We've had the dryest winter in a long while, I know it's not our rainy season, but we usually have at least one good downpour in June or July; nothing this year! My Crotons were drooping, and the Camellia which usually is covered in flowers, still only has flower buds, and some branches have died.
The swallows are back, weird, much earlier than usual, and it rained on Friday! What a relief for the poor plants!

I'm sure you're looking forward to warmer weather, and seeing the garden come alive again!

Some people will not understand, and not about forgetting. Absolutely not; those memories are precious and keep us going. It's in one's head and knowing how they always want(ed) us to be happy. It doesn't happen over night and it's also about giving yourself permission....

Hang in there, Lizelle xx

Those memories are all around me and ingrained in my soul, so very precious, and yes, they both wanted/want us to be happy.
Each time I crumble, I wonder how you are.
Thank heavens for busy-ness and good friends /family and a beautiful world. There still are wonderfully good times💕

It is good that you are putting one foot in front of the other and getting out and doing things. That is a nice chunky power up, good for you. The salad looked yummy. I wouldn't mind having it for my lunch here shortly. Best wishes to you on your journey moving forward.

Wonderful to see you back, for a second I thought we may get some of Winter, this only lasted a couple of days.

West side of country has had a rough cold wet winter, perhaps the warmer weather will find you in the garden once again.

Take care and once again it's good to see you writing once again.

It's good to know that you are moving on, actually easier said than done, but those baby steps are steps all the same, in the right direction.
I wish you the best.
