Do Men Have the Power to know the Future?: MCGI Topic Review
In this video teaching, Bro. Eli Soriano answered the question: “Do men have the power to know the future?” This deep question makes us embark on a very interesting journey in terms of understanding the Christian faith, prophecy, and everything that comes with the destiny of every man. So let us reflect on the lessons taught in this teaching.
Brother Eli outlines weaknesses and the rationale behind why Christianity cannot only rely on the present. He notes that the bible is not only a manual of doctrines but also a book containing prophecies. The reason for this aspect of Scripture is to serve us in our journey of faith.
Re-echoing the words spoken by Jesus In the Gospel of John, Brother Eli is sharing with us, “And now I have told you before it come to pass, that when it is come to pass, ye might believe.” This quotation makes us comprehend the purpose of the fulfillment of prophecies.
The teaching rebuts the attitude that says ‘whatever will be will be.’ In fact, Brother Eli claims that as long as God helps us, there is nothing that we cannot achieve in future. For this, he cites the example of Proverbs 16:9: “A man’s heart deviseth his way but the Lord directeth his steps” to show that there is need to keep our focus on both – the perking up of our plans and seeking direction from God.
A sobering aspect of the teaching is the fact that there is a point of no return, that is, death. Quoting Ecclesiastes 9:5, Brother Eli reminds us that the living are well aware of the fact that they will die someday. This knowledge is not given with the intention of striking fear in people but rather to instill the desire of living with a purpose. He also mentions the exception for those who are blessed with immortality and may be alive at the coming of Christ.
Brother Eli goes further beyond this death to speak of the judgment to follow, Heb 9:27. This should cause us to remember the answer to the question of dominion and the end of life after a strong urging: a call to live resurrection-conscious lives.
For the believers, it is clear that we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do, as written in Ephesians 2:10. It provides meaning and purpose while we are here on earth.
In a nutshell therefore, the teachings of Brother Eli Soriano do not only idealize the future but ask us rather emphatically to live in the here and now, fully aware of God’s word. It is a challenge of a life of faith, of commitment, the conviction that as long as we walk with our God, our tomorrow is well taken care of.
