Unexpected Heavy Rain Fall And It’s Damages.

It’s just February and I wasn’t expecting any rain fall yet even though I have been praying for it because of the unbearable heat. My neighbor said “The last person who entered into hell forgot to shut the gate which is why there have been so much heat” this was before the rain.

Normally, in the month of January in Lagos city we expected to have a cozy weather which is more of harmattan and little dryness since we just left the month of December and our first rain fall always come in either March or April and it is never heavy. Just something little.

It was surprising to see that early January, the heat in Lagos city was so much that people can even predict the weather anymore. The heatwave was so much everywhere became so dusty, people had to adjust the way they dress and most time when the electricity is out at night, we find it difficult to sleep. It is expected that the night time are always cool because the sun is out but the heat sat us down and stayed with us all through the night.

Early February 2024, there have been signs of rainy clouds without any rain. This appeared quite often without any rain fall. I kept on praying for rain even though I was working on a project that is yet to be completed. The drainage in from of my home needed a new fix, so last week I called the bricklayer to start working on it. The work was going well and I had the assurance that “even if the rain start falling, we would be on the safe side. The job was completed on Saturday evening

We got home after a long day at the church, it was a hot day again. I ate and lay down to sleep just for my sister to rush into my room to tell me that it’s raining heavily and the drainage which we did recently had collapse. It was a shocker to me, I jumped up, rushed outside and it was a painful sight to behold.

I couldn’t even take a picture at that time because my mind was occupied with various thoughts. Here is the end result of the heavy rain fall.

Funny fact is that, it was sunny today and the heat was so much after the heavily rain fall which caused flood. I was expected a cool weather because it just rained but now, it is so hard to tell what the weather is gonna be like. There are days where I was expecting a sunny day and it turned out to be a cold day.

I don’t know the reason for the early rain fall this year, but it seems it not gonna stop after the first one. The best way to control the flood is to get a good drainage system which we are doing already. I have paid for the damage drainage, took some hive out and I felt bad about it because it wasn’t part of the plan. Well, it’s like we are gonna have a different kind of unfriendly weather this year, I have got to prepare for it.
