Chasing The Man Behind The Screen.

Holla Hivers, Its another beautiful day, I was going to make this post yesterday but decided to do it today because today makes it one year my rich uncle got attacked by my cyber criminal. I call her rich anuty because I never knew she had millions of naira in her account until she started lamenting to us about her predicament. How did it happen? you ask. Well, before we jump into the story, I would like to welcome you to my blog

It all happened last year July 25th, I was in my room when my phone started ringing non stop, I was playing game with the aim of calling back when I am done but the phone did not stop ring. I had no choice but to pick up
"Hello, mommy. Any issue," I said, particularly angry because I did not want to stop the game I was playing. Before I could say something else, she went ahead to say
"Tiolu, they are robbing mummy Michael; they are robbing her."

At that moment, different robbing scene had played through my mind. Where are the robbers holding guns? What type of gun? did they beat her? There were so many questions I wanted to ask, but the word that came out of my mouth was, "Hope they did not wound her.?"

"Wound her like how?" My mom asked in return. "But you said they were robbing her." I gave a sharp response. Well, long story short.

My aunt was called by an unknown number, telling her someone has been trying to login into her account for a while and the bank is trying to confirm if she's the one. She said she wasn't the one and began to panic, The other person on the phone told her to relax and that the bank can change her password before the person logged in.

Now, here is the twist. My aunt does not use internet banking, but the man was telling her someone already has access to her account using the internet and that it would be better for her to register the internet and change her password. As per the loving bank manager that the man was, he promised to help her through the process.

They started the process and she was sending her details and one-time passcode. After she had sent all the information, the man on the other side of the line told her.

"Thank you, ma; everything has been sorted," and immediately she started seeing a debt alert on her phone.

It started from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands until 5 million naira was deducted from her account.

The reason why my mom called me was because I was into cybersecurity at the previous company where I worked, but there was nothing I could do. The money is gone, and some people are out there spending it already.

The only help I could offer was emotional help. I called her to let her know anything that was lost can be found again if there is life. We couldn't get the money back, but we have our lives.
