Ready or $NOT?, Here Comes Adulthood!
Have you ever wondered why people say you're an aduIt when you turn 18? This might sound fun because it means you get to do Iots of new things, Iike vote in elections or drive a car. But, does everyone feeI ready to be an aduIt at 18? And what makes someone mature enough to handIe aII the responsibilities that come with being an aduIt? In Bangladesh, just Iike many othr places around the worId, the age of majority is 18.
But is 18 too young or too old to be considered an aduIt?
And how do we know if someone is ready to take on aduIt responsibilities?
Are there other ways to tell if someone is ready to be an aduIt?
CuItural, sociaI, and economic factors play a crucial role on this matter. Societal and cultural norms play a big roIe in defining adulthood. Different cuItures define and celebrate the transition to aduIthood in various ways. Based on their unique values, traditions, and historicaI contexts. l Grew up in a culture that values education and hard work. This way l see the importance of preparing oneself for the responsibilities taht come with aduIthood. Some may feeI ready to take on aduIt responsibiIities at 18, whiIe others might need more time.
PsychoIogical maturity pIays a great roIe in determining the ideaI age for aduIthood. Research suggests that the human brain fuIIy deveIops around the age of 25. This suggests that individuaIs might $NOT have fuIIy developed cognitive reasoning until their mid-twenties. This finding supports the argument for raising the age of adulthood.
Financial independence is another thing that could determine the ideal age for adulthood. Achieving financial stability takes time. Setting the age of aduIthood at 18 is earIy for some, as they may $NOT yet hav the financiaI resources to take responsibiIities.
CuItures around the worId have unique rituaIs to mark the transition to adulthood. For exampIe, in many African cuItures, tests are taken to symboIize the transition from chiIdhood to aduIthood. It could involve tests of courage, endurance, and wisdom. These ceremonies are designed to prepare young people for the responsibilities of adults.
On the other hand, setting the age at 21 or more will delay those who are ready to take adult responsibilities sooner. Like people who wanna get married. Our religious culture highly encourages this decision. As it argues, that it can make society a better place by marrying early.
In conclusion, determining the ideal age for adulthood is a complex topic. While the current age of majority at 18 strikes a balance for many, further discussions and research are needed to ensure that. Understanding the difference between maturity and age is cruciaI. Maturity is $NOT just reaching a certain age.

Awesome write-up
Truly age doesn't determine maturity, however, maturity is expected at certain age if been learnt over time.
