Small but invasive - Hoary alyssum

I went to a little wild area close to the woods to see what weeds grow and bloom in September. The place is big enough to fir some bushes too and young trees. Nobody mows the grass or takes care of it. Full freedom.
And as everywhere I looked I saw these little white ones. I wanted to shoot others too, but they were constantly there.
Fine - this is their 5 minutes then :)

It is also called Hoary alyssum and it is quite a common plant in Europe. This one was shot in Poland. It was almost the end of it's blooming time and you can see the very long stems with all the spent flowers and seed pods. It can bloom from one for quite a while constantly extending.

It starts to flower in spring, around April in warmer countries and a bit later further norths. Blooming peak is in summer and the flowers will keep showing until late October.

The flowers are very small - less than 5mm across forming little clusters. Very pretty when there is a bunch of them.

A little fancier alyssum in various colours (white, dark purple, lilac) is used in a garden as ground cover. They do bloom beautifully creating carpets of flowers if maintained correctly. I have some in a pot but I forget to trim them and they just grow long and messy.

The seeds are very tiny and spread around as soon as the pod matures and breaks. The stem can still bloom in the same time. A real mass production. This makes the plant quite invasive in some areas.

My one does the same thing. I sowed it once two years ago and it just pops on its own since then.

It does looks nice among the mostly green fields and grasses.

Lastly a lovely, old graphic.

I enjoy shooting them... They all have their own charm and would like to show the way I see them.

maybe we should keep them spreading out, so we will have a white carpet when it is time for them to bloom. Sometimes the weed has beautiful flowers.

beautiful photos as usual. : ) !LUV
