One giant mess and I love it!

Graptosedum giant flowers 14.jpg

I really like this plant. It grows fast, looks pretty, blooms, and no amount of direct sun is able to kill it. I wish all the plants were like this one.
Yes, it leaves quite a bit of mess too when the dry leaves from all those stems start to fall off, but it is a small price to pay.

Is it a Graptosedum? I think so. It has lovely, fleshy leaves covered in delicate farina (the white dust) that protects it from the sun and too much moisture too. The stems do not stay covered in leaves, though. They grow pretty fast and lose the older layer of leaves all year round - thus the mess.

Propagation is easy peasy too. Either way, you cut one of the long stems and stick it in soil to have a new, more tidy plant.

Or you pick some of the healthy leaves and leave them on top of the soil. New little plants will start to grow. It is a much longer process, but you can get many more plants from just one rosette. It often happens that some leaves fall while moving the plant, and they start growing roots even on bare tiles.

I have tried both, and both work with no issues.

There are also seeds, of course. That I did not try. That would mean almost a mass production, and I don't want any more of them. The other two methods are enough for me.

See how long the stems got? I should probably just trim them all and plant all over again. I am just a little lazy :p
The long brown hair are roots.

You can also notice that the bottom one is more green than the top ones. This happens when the leaves get less direct (if any) sun. Also in winter when it is cooler and there is less sun they grow more green with a little longer leaves. When summer comes they turn to this lovely pinkish bush.

Can you see the nasty little aphids on the flower? They show up as soon as the plant starts to bloom. The flowers are not exactly affected much; they open normally and dry up as always. But the little buggers drive me nuts as they like to move to another plant after they are done with this one.

And here is a little bonus. The little wild Oxalis moved in some tears ago to my pots and does not want to move out :p If I manage to pull it from one pot, it shows up in another.
And we have been playing this game for some years now :)

Looks like Graptosedum Bronze. They are indestructible

Indestructible is my kind of plant :)
I am not sure which one it is. I thought Bronze is more orange. This one get the pink/red tones when stressed.

You need some ladybugs to deal with those pesky aphids! 😉

Graptos do really well here too. I have a new strategy for the oxalis: either kill it by not watering when it's really hot, which the succulents tolerate, or use my favourite surgical forceps to grab the roots and pull it out of the cacti where they hide

Those forceps are very cool.
I do pull them when I see them, but there is always one that manages to bloom and spread the seeds before I get it.

There's always one... Those pods also explode on contact so they spread around

I saw my one the other day and thought the same, that I should trim those long stems and plant them again. They hang down, with those brown thin roots and scream to be repotted 😂

And the colour - the same difference here, if on sun or not, but my gets less sun so it stays more in a green-blue version. The little yellow twinkle twinkle stars are so cute ;))

They grow really fast, dont they? :)
I dont quite mind the long stems, just that it gets too long and I keep kicking it (the pot stands on the floor). Maybe I will just put it in a hanging basket then they can hang as much as they want to :P

My ones gets direct sun almost all day long. I have another pot that I keep in a corner and it is more like yours. More blue and with longer leaves.

I have one in my garden. Very similar, I love looking at it every day, but I very rarely water it. The succulent is not fussy and not difficult to store, it just often gets lost when some of my friends come and take it to put it on the office table :D

They don't need much water and if it is in a garden it probably gets enough from the rains and mists.

Good morning dear friend @ewkaw
Cleaning dry leaves does not seem like such a high price to be able to appreciate this beauty.
These plants are great, especially their reproduction. Aphids are never missing, it's good that they affect the flowers.
These shots are beautiful, I appreciate you sharing with us.
have a beautiful sunday

It is one of my favorites and yes, it spreads very fast. In these rainy days here I noticed it more driven than usual.

;)

Lindas fotos!

Hello @ewkaw
These are one of those plants that I would like to have in my house, another thing that I really like are cacti.
What a beautiful silver, and how well it looks, you have to be very careful with aphids

This one is so much easier to grow than cacti. And it grow a lot faster too.
Cacti on the other hand have much prettier flowers...

I had a horrible mess with aphids! My hibiscus plant was utterly covered in aphids. I was able to beat the aphids by spraying them repeatedly with a water and dish soap mixture. That was a year ago and the plant is fine now.

I just hate the little buggers! I see plenty of the on one of Kalanchoe plants now and I think I will just get rid of the whole thing.

Bad news: Saying see you later to Hive! 👋

We didn't get the needed support to continue cXc.world on Hive, as our DHF proposal lacked votes, but [Good News Everyone] cXc.world will add a Markdown copy button, allowing you to easily share your music + music you find on Hive.

For now, we're on WAX, with tools you can use to mint your own Music/Media NFT collection.
